i have two week old chics....i have red star, golden comets, cinamon queens (all the same i am told)......... my rooster is much smaller than the hens.... is this common, is this right? this is our first go at chickens, and it seems the rooster is much smaller than the hens......

how do we tell it is a rooster..... by the color? it is a red sex link, and what we were told, they sex the chics early by the color. it is totally different then the other chics and still is.

any help?

Red sex links (including the golden comets, cinnamon queens and the red stars) are sexed by color. If the chicks are red, they're females, white (yellow when babies) they're males. Normally roosters are bigger than hens, maybe he's a runt?
ETA: The color thing is the same as they get older, the females are red, the males are white or mostly white with some red flecks in the feathers.

One of my roos was way smaller as a chick and he took forever to feather out. He now outweighs my girls double.
