So started off last Friday with losing a newborn buckeye and yesterday I found the elder statesman of the barn (really big lavender buff) hiding in between 2 bales of hay. Hesitant but not hostile to bring out. There was blood and scabing on the front of his chest and he wouldn't eat or drink. I thought he was headed to the big coop in the sky, he is 8 or 9 yrs. Made it through the night but still burying himself in the bales. Son found a huge (4in long 3/4in wide) bruse on his right side from below his wing up to his neck! No blood, no heat, can't tell about swelling. I have him isolated with the chicken who stays close to him, but seems in a lot of pain/discomfort. Anything I can give him for it?

When my ducks were attacked by a mink last Easter the vet gave me meloxicam for pain and inflammation. they Can get it in liquid form. I don’t think they would have survived without it. They couldn’t move their heads to eat since the mink had ravaged all of their necks. once I started the pain med they were able to eat and drink.

Thanks for the info, he made through the week end, spent the night in the hotel {garage} and seems better, got some electrolytes in him but won't eat. Stool is runny with black spots I'll post a picture. Where do I go from here? Should I force food or liquids?

Not sure might have been our other roo, but Ruphio usually kicks his kiester on a regular basis, but Soup (barred rock) has broken both of his spurs and we have coyotes not to far off, but the horses like to chase them so not really sure

The last 3 nights I've been feeding him yogurt mixed with raw honey and probiotics mixed in water he still really tired, but after I put him back in the kennel he drank more water on his own for the first time since Saturday!
So follow up on Ruphio for anyone whose following. Over this weekend he started eating and drinking unassisted this morning I had a stool sample analized and he has some leftover junk in his trunk but he isn't contagious and can join his flock later this week. Most effective things I did was the electrolytes and probiotics keeping him quiet and warm. The yogurt doesn't do any good, wrong bascillis but didn't hurt him. Thanks for everybodies input.
