Was his tail bobbing? Or just moving from eating? If it was bobbing, that is a sign that they aren't getting enough oxygen. We've had quite a few birds like that. We took them to the vet, they almost all were sick and died due to Marek's disease. I'm told it is quite common in backyard flocks.
No, not tail bobbing, he was eating egg in the clip. I don't have Marek's at this property. No one else is ill.Was his tail bobbing? Or just moving from eating? Good morning everyone. I'm sorry to have to report that Rufus didn't make it through the night. I had hopes he was going to improve, he ate so good yesterday. He finished 2 whole scrambled eggs plus some feed.
He was such a great rooster. So gentle with the girls, always watching over everyone. I've never had a rooster who was such an engaged daddy to his babies. He never said an unkind word or was ever mean to anyone. He wasn't crazy about me, but he was the perfect rooster to my little flock of Silkies. They will miss him and so will I.
The good that came out of this was all the education I got from this thread. I will know what to do next time. Thank you all again for stepping up
