I have some hardware cloth and some welded wire fencing, not enough of each to cover the entire run. Should I use the heavier welded wire around the bottom and the lighter hardware cloth up higher or should I buy enough of one of them to do the whole thing? The welded wire has 2 inch by 4 inch openings.

My new coop/ run. Baby chicks will go through2"x4" fencing, and raccoons will pull chickens through it in pieces. UGH! As daytime fencing it's not bad, but 24/7 security is more like this. Woven wire or cattle panels are both better than welded wire too. I planned for the worst likely to happen here. If we had bears, I'd add electric. Mary

So you used the cattle panel as a frame and attached the hardware cloth to it? I'm looking for daytime protection only. The chicken house door will be closed at night. The welded wire fencing that I have is pretty heavy. Perhaps I should mount the hardware cloth to it.

I use both. The 2"x4" welded wire fence is attached to the outside of the 4x4 run framing. The hardware wire is attached to the inside, so there is 3 1/2 inches separating the two fences. I have seen a bobcat climbing on the outside fence, trying to find a way in. He didn't! It cost more to do it this way, but I sleep well at night!
