Nikki said nothing, and didn't move.

Senkah snapped out of her thoughts. "Yeah, Nike?"

Chayton nudged her, "I only was thinking, Nikki. Please don't take offence." He pleaded, his eyes holding a pleading look.

Nike blinked, his tail twitching with interest. "You alright?"

Nikki looked at him out of the corner of her eye. "I'm not," she murmured drowsily, her eyes falling slowly.

"No."

Chayton sighed, his thoughts still whirling. "I love you." He whispered, laying his head over her shoulders.

Nike blinked again, his ears tipping forward. Finally, he worked up the courage to come closer to her. "What's wrong?"

"I made the biggest mistake of my life many moons ago, and it's really started to hit me these past few moons." Senkah didn't take her eyes off the clouds in the sky.

"I love you too, Chayton..." Nikki slurred. Her breaths grew shallower, instead of deeper, when she dozed off.

"I made the biggest mistake of my life many moons ago, and it's really started to hit me these past few moons." Senkah didn't take her eyes off the clouds in the sky.

Chayton felt his heart beat faster, listening to her breathing. He curled his body around her's, hoping to keep her warm in the chilly breeze.

Nike cocked his head slightly. He was surprised at how open his mate was. "What mistake?" He asked quietly, afraid to disturb her.

Nikki dreamt about all sorts of things, blinking (in her unconscious state, of course) as she realized that they were memories of playing with Lightning and Sitka from when she was a pup, and prior to Lightning's injury. She felt no pain in her legs, but had growing pressure in her sides and on her chest, and felt as if her muzzle and nose had been forced into the dirt. It was becoming harder, and harder to breathe... The realization hit Nikki like a wave of cold water. She knew what was happening... but she didn't want to admit it. No no no, I don't want to die now!

Chayton had fallen into a light sleep, one that he could rest, but still be aware of his surroundings. He became startled when he scented fear in the air. Jerking his head up, he looked closely at Nikki. Her breathing shallow. Much too shallow. Panic rose within him, as he nudged her gently with his nose.

Nike didn't know what to say. He knew she had Hades' pups, but what other pups was she talking about. "Senkah," He began gingerly, "What pups are you talking about?"

Nikki rolled limply to one side.

"I fell in love with a Darkpack wolf before I became alpha," Senkah said, looking off into the distance. "I had pups with him. My other sister, Russet found out, and she attacked me. Jay, my first mate's name, intervined. We didn't even realize we were on the edge of a sheer cliff... Russet and Jay wrestled, and they... they fell off."

Sitka shook her head. "No. Her fate's in Starpack's paws now."

Blizzard let out a small whine. He ripped off a piece of meat and slowly walked to the cave where Nikki was. "Here." He whispered laying the food down near her.

Gray smiled, sorta, happy to have found them. "We need to get back to the dens." He said, he had heard their father's howl, and knew Tala had been in bad shape, and feared that the sadnees in the howl had meant the worst.
