*~*Runner Duck Club*~*

Chickens, ducks and gardening is like free therapy. Lol very calming and gives you a sense of peace.
Yes it's awesome peace to be outside and have the birds to make us laugh

gardening is what my mom does. She says it helps her so much to get her hands dirty.
My dad was gardening up until a year before he passed away he was a few months short of 89. He always said he loved working in the dirt.

I tell folks I lost my mind the day the Runner ducklings arrived - and I could not be happier!!!

A visitor once observed, no one can be around ducks like these and stay depressed.

They have a joie de vivre like no one else I know. My Runners engage with me - look me in the eye, tell me things straight to my face (especially Zehn and Vier).

My voice has changed since they arrived - it is, I am told, much more open and strong.

Glad that others have benefited from them, as well. They are not for everyone, I have noticed. They are not a piece of lawn furniture, and they need care and management and the big four-letter word: T I M E.

Much less costly and healthier than zoloft, glucophage, or statins.

I have a runner like that too. Her name is little foot. She is always giving me lip lol if she had lips. Always telling me what I am doing wrong. She has always been this way. Talk talk talk. Even the first day I took her out of the box. She had a lot to say even then.

What color duck do you get when you breed a Trout duck to a Blue Penciled drake?

Hehehehehehe you won't get it right.

The egg just hatched.

First came the yellow beak. Then I saw the yellow neck. Then the yellow head. It's a yellow duckling! So the answer is - you get a white duck!!! I will post pictures soon. The duckling is still in the incubator, sleeping.

Three sisters have hatched with expected brown colors and markings. (Mom has no brown gene, dad has brown genes, so if they're brown I know they're girls!).

I'm so excited!!!

we're building a new duck house this weekend, loosely based on these plans. http://www.flytesofancy.co.uk/chickenhouses/Classic_Duck_Houses.html How high up off the ground would you make the house? i'm worried that if we just do little stilts as pictured, that rats will set up shop under the duck house. If we go a bit higher, like a foot off the ground will our runner ducks still be able to climb up the ramp? i've heard that they don't like to climb at all.

That is an adorable house.I went out and measured the ramp going into the house my Runners use it's 1'off the ground so that should be fine for your Runners.
My Muscovy drake at the door looking in one of his girls is in there walking around. lol
My Runners haven't a problem with this ramp. they also use a ramp to get into their pool.

I'm sure a lot of you already know this but runners are amazing animals.
Yesterday I was out side with them taken more pictures and all the sudden they stopped talking and frozze in place. Before I new it I was surrounded on all sides. Took me a second to figure out what was going on. They all had there heads tilted to one side and they all was looking up. So I did the same. I jumped up and got between my flock and what I seen in the sky. Two hawks where checking out what was for dinner. While we all watched them a small flock of birds came in and chased the would be killers away. To much excitement let me tell ya. The thing is. Was my flock protecting me or was I protecting them? Or was it going both ways? I believe we was protecting each other.

I think you are right. And they are amazing. When hawks come by, I spread my arms up and over, toward the flock and tell the hawks that "these are mine."
