for your reply I also think this to be the case as the majority of the pics I have seen with the runner

ducks in the us look more like

khaki Campbell mixed with call ducks not the straight looking like mine

I think I have 6 males and 8 females but that could change.I know that's not a good ratio.
I have been told Runner drakes don't fight like Muscovy's so as far as fighting maybe things won't be so bad but ganging up on the females is a worry. And finding the kind of homes we want for those we decide not to keep is another, My dh has a friend with a pond and wild ducks and geese and he said he'd take some of my Runners. I asked dh if he told his friend that they need housing etc That they aren't going to fly off in the fall for warmer weather, that they can't fly at all and need protection from preds. Nope he didn't so if he is serious I will have to have a serious conversation. with lots of info. And it still might not work out.

I wouldn't get rid of any of my boys. They have a 50/50 run. If we have to we will split it down the middle and the coop. One side for the boys one side for the girls. My ducks are family and if I have to put more $ in to keeping them safe then that's what we will do.
I understand what your saying. I wouldn't give up any of my ducks to just anyone. Your smart to make sure the person with the pond is going to keep them as save as possible.

Romeo and Trouble made it through the night in the coop. I watched them for a bit before I left them all alone. Romeo did at one point give Trouble a little bit of his own medicine. Witch surprised me but after they was done knocking heads and Romeo was the clear winner Trouble was chasing him around the coop and trying to pull him down. Boys will be boys. I'm just happy they both are alive and no blood was shedd.

I'm hoping not to have to do this either, My dh is already looking at me funny but he should be use to it by now. It will take alot for me to make that decision to give them up, I am enjoying them so much.

I suffer from depression. Its a family inherited thing. (Thanks mom) anyways I have tryed many things to help me coupe with it when I have bad days. Let me say raising these ducks have been a God sent and a headack because everything they are going through is new to me and a great challenge. They always make me smile. Anyone with runners know what I am talking about. They are a crazy bunch. I have other animals 2 cats 4 dogs witch 2 are almost as old as dirt but something about raising ducks gives me more relief from life's little hiccups.
