My duckling trying REALLY hard to get out. We helped with as much shell as we can, but the membrane is like rubber! I wrapped it in damp paper towels touching as much membrane as possible and added more humidity (its at 80), is there anything else I can/should do to help???? I think the 2nd is the same way, but i don't think it internally pipped so I dont want to open a hole in that egg to get more moisture in that one... will raising the humidity help the other on too?? I'm SO sorry if I am being annoying... I shouldn't have as many questions once my new bator has been running stable for 24 hrs (its been on since late last night) We are on what we THINK is day 27

Not knowing the actual hatching date makes this a difficult call because the 2nd could be just normally hatching and to bother it would not be a good idea. You do know that ducks take longer periods between pipping internally and the shell? Some at least 24 hours, prob. the norm. If you help just be careful that you don't break the veins and if you do, hold it down with a paper towel. Your humidity is good...Sorry can't help you more!

Thanks! Silkie has been helping me too, she told me what to look for and do, the veins in the membrane still have blood so I'm leaving it be and wetting the REALLY DRY RUBBERY membrane & keeping it moist, i candled the other egg while i was moistening the partially hatched one and it looks like it may be pipped, so I'm completely leaving it alone and not turning it. Thank you all so much, you have all been so much help and so kind. I will post pics when they hatch : fingers crossed: <3

Hey sorry it's been a busy day here. Sounds like it has been there too! Yeh we used a drawing pin/thumb tack. Can you see the duckling now? Or is the hole not bug enough? Yeh it sounds like they are drying out which is what happened to all mine. The membrane is almost rubbery and impossible to tear. As long as she has a hole now hopefully she will do the rest. Keep talking to them or tapping on the box. I found it really got them going. They nay still have yolk to absorb too which may be why they're taking their time. Glad you've got your humidity up higher, it won't do any harm. Fingers crossed still!

Thanks! Yeah, when I realized how dry it was I peeled as much of the air sac area of the shell off as I could without hurting her, and we have wet paper towels on all of the exposed membrane. Her bill is sticking out and we can see some of her body. She is starting to tear the membrane around her head, but she still has blood in the veins. I'm sorry to hear all of yours shrink wrapped :( I will keep you updated :) The second one seems to be having problems pipping fully inside, no external pip yet, I'm leaving her alone and seeing what happens

It's abit confusing really, you try and help a little as they are like get me out if here and then you see all these veins still! Sounds like she's doing good. Just needs to finish absorbing and then the veins shut off and out she'll come. Yeh hope the other one is doing ok! Maybe that one is on time rather than early!

Should the membrane be thick and kind of slimy? She's pushing the bottom of her body out, but her head is still in (her bill is sticking out) and as she gets out further her bill is slowly going back in, i keep having tho carefully push this slimy crap back because she starts freaking and her mouth opens and her tounge sticks out, then once i push it out of the way she calms.... I feel helpless, she still has blood in the veins and the membrane is thick & slimy now, i can't help her besides keeping the membrane moist :( I hope she ends up ok, she really is struggling to get out but i can tell she's not ready ugh

Sry, i tried to quote u for the above post, but my cell is being annoying lol

Do runners usually go broody? If so are the dependable to stay broody long enough to hatch a clutch of eggs?

I have 2 Muscovy hens/ducks to use as incubators if needed.
