*~*Runner Duck Club*~*

hey guys,
we have 4 indian runners,3girls and a boy,all healthy and vocal.we also have 4 iso brown hens, living together in 2 large outdoor areas,we have a large well sheltered coop and two half dog kennels for protection.no other pets and no predators as we are in suburbia.Large fences, fairly quiet area.
the hens were there first and are 5 months old now.the ducks are 4 months old now and have not started to lay yet,the hens are average layers at best.
they are fed together, pellets and plenty of scraps and leafy greens from the local fruit/veg store.we have 3 plummed in drinking water buckets and two large clam shells for swimming.
I cant think what I'm doing wrong as by now all should be laying regularly, yeah?

any help would be wild

ok, its been a month since my last post.
the chickens are laying more steadily now but....
the ducks have not laid an egg yet....
still unsure

You have searched real good under bedding and anything else they maybe able to get under or around? 5 months old should be starting very soon. Are you seeing breeding?

Are you in the USA? breeding has been going on continually here since Feb. actually they breed all year round but not like they are now. You haven't even seen the females going through the mating motions?

I'm in Adelaide South Australia, its still warmish here,up to 28 degrees C during the day still, but its getting cooler

I just don't know what to say, Maybe depending on where in the world we live depends on when they begin to lay Like my Muscovies if hatched say spring of this year won't begin to lay till next spring usually between 8-10 months old mating isn't until the next spring either. But where it is warmer year round they lay year round and breed year round. Seems since your in AU not sure how cold you get in winter but I'd think you'd be seeing breeding and egg laying pretty early, My Runners really surprised me and started mating at around 4 months of age and started laying around 4.5 months of age laid like crazy for a straight 18 months then last fall stopped completely and rested all winter into this March then started up again. I guess if your feeding good quality feed and they are healthy patience is going to have to be your mantra. Hopefully you'll start seeing eggs soon.

Do you have a drake?
