I have a runner duckling that is 4 weeks old and it looks like 2 weeks old. There is nothing wrong with it that I can see. How common is this.
?

I have heard of this kind of thing. Now, the usually-asked questions:

what are you feeding it?
what other ducklings are with it?
what about water?
poop?
appetite?
activity level?

Can someone help me out? I am hatching duckling eggs for the first time (choc/fawn/white runners). I got 3 eggs yesterday that are about 2 weeks along (under mom up until the last day, then in her incubator for the day til i picked them up). We candled when we got home and from what i could tell from a bit of research all was well. Then I woke up and my incubator had dropped temp to 93 degrees.

I made a thread asking if they'd be ok, and people said they should be. We candled again today to just make sure (I have 4 kids who are so excited for our new baby ducklings), DH and I are pretty sure one may be dead, but I want to be sure before we toss it and tell the kids.... It looks like there's blood in the egg and I don't see movement like I do in the other 2..... is my poor baby dead????

If so, does anyone know where I can get 1 or 2 fertile runner duck eggs or day old ducklings cheap???? I cant afford the crazy cost for ordering just 1 or 2 from a hatchery, and the farm I got them from sold me her only 3 fertile eggs. Thanks! Sorry this is so long lol, I wanted to explain the situation and am a newby to all of this. (we have 3 week old chicks we got as day olds, not sure what they are yet, and the 3, possibly 2, ducklings we are trying so hard to incubate) Thanks again!

They are fed flock raiser.
There is 32 ducklings in the pen that very with 10 days of each other. It looks like a dwarf compaired to the others. Oh and 12 chicks too.
Its activity level is the same as all the others.
We have well water and they have free choice food and water, each Sunday they get vitamins added.
I have watched it closely to make sure it is eating and no problem their. I have even checked for sour croup , nope. I have witnessed it popping and don't.seem to a problem either.

Sounds like you just have a little who doesn't grow well. There are some that just don't get as big as the others. MicroDuck was a well-loved little, like that. Had a good, if somewhat short life. I would keep doing what you are doing, perhaps give him or her a few extra high-nutrient treats, and pray.

Thanks I will do just that. I may keep it back with the chicks do to its size until.it feathers out more. The 11 older ones are about half way feathered already.

one of my Runner girls is broody.

I'm guessing it is Penelope my Runner who went broody last year, but honestly 5 of the 6 Runner girls look almost exactly the same.

My Runner ducklings are growing like weeds. If this weather stays warm I plan on getting them outside for just a little while. I still have a heat lamp on them and they are 4 & 5 weeks old. Could I turn them off yet? They have started to feather out. Right now the temps are 40 + degrees.
