runner duck - cough or hiccups? aspergillosis?

update on Poppy and her coughing the last few days I’ve been using Vet RX I put it on her bill a little goes right into her nares,, I put some on top of her head and even a drop into her mouth and also one of my other ducks, who started squeaky coughing a bit last week is getting the same treatment. Plus I noticed a slight moldy smell in some of the straw that I’ve been using in their duck house. I thought it was just smelled like it was old. But now Im rethinking.
I’m doing deep litter so I added a layer of pine flakes on top. it seems she’s coughing a lot less. I’m going out today to buy some new straw from a different place, and I do have a question— I am wondering if I can just continue to layer, fresh pine flakes and new straw on the top , and not worry about what’s underneath until March when I usually clean out all of it or do you think if there is any mold spores they may work their way through to the top I don’t know how fast they move but I I add a new layer every day of fresh stuff so the spores would have to be pretty speedy to make it up to the air,, @Miss Lydia

That is probably the same thing I just buy it by the gallon and you don't need the citric acid either.

oh it just came in the mail I bought some and I haven’t opened the box yet to read the instructions. Hopefully it will tell me on there how much to use etc. if I am confused, I’ll pop back on here and ask questions.

I use 3/4 cup Oxine Ah to a gallon of water. I figure that is close to what shagbark bantams rec at 6 oz. per gallon.
My Muscovy drake was sounding hoarse a couple weeks ago so I started misting him a couple times a day right in the face he doesn't care lol and adding greek oregano [dried] to their feed and it took about a week and he was back to his huffy self. lol

thanks i grow oregano but idk if it’s greek - i have a big bag of it dried i can add some to feed . i wonder how to tell if my plants are greek or not lol

Did you start from seed? I don't know why they rec greek but I don't see why what you have wouldn't work. I bought Greek oregano seeds last year but I think it will take a few years for mine to get where I could dry enough for 33 birds. I mix 3 heaping Tablespoons into their feed bucket daily and put a Tablespoon onto of my muscovy feed since they are separated from the other birds.
I've been buying 5lb at a time from ebay and it can get pricy.

i started eight years ago with small plants i forget what the labels said . i’ll start some greek this year if i can . i don’t know if you saw my other post above about the mold in the straw? i wanted to get your opinion on that too . thanks so much

Did you get rid of it? I did reply mainly about how these things can cause respiratory issues that is where the Oxine ah comes in.

i got rid of the bad straw from my shed but there’s still a couple layers of it under the pine flakes and fresh straw in the duck house. i think tomorrow i may have time to clean it all out and start fresh and i’ll use the oxide ah. . i did math and put 2 tbsp ( 1 oz) of it into 21.3 oz of water in a spray bottle. i’ll use it after i clear out the old bedding and then can i keep using it on top of fresh bedding daily to keep dust down? and i’ll spray a mist over poppy ( and flower too, she’s the other duck who i heard her squeak) today is crazy wind and getting late already sigh the short days of winter are sad

I spray the bedding everyday once I get all the wet poop cleaned up I also spray my chickens roosts everyday. It's been really windy here since last night sounded like a hurricane was coming the wind was so strong through the night. It has calmed now.
I'd try and mist them a couple times a day to start.

this is crazy amazing but i misted everybody with the Oxine AH last night and again this morning and so far today i have not heard one cough or squeek Yaaay thanks God
