Running out of ideas on crop problem

Unfortunately, I did let him euthanize. Her X-ray showed fluid in her abdomen and he felt like there was a reproductive issue. She was skin and bones. He was doing a necropsy this afternoon and is supposed to call with results. He raises chickens as well and I trusted his judgement. Good luck with your girl and keep us posted.

well finally, this morning, the sussex crop is empty. she's still hanging out in a nesting box all day and night like a broody but i doubt she's broody. i am going to make her some scrambled eggs to see if i can get her to eat today. i personally don't think she's out of the woods yet.

That is good about her crop! If she eats, that is good. Mine completely quit eating...even the egg I made her. My vet called with our necropsy results yesterday and of course I didn’t have my phone with me AND of course the office was closed when I called back 2 minutes later. So patiently waiting for the results.

The vet just called and said that as soon as he looked he know that she had cancer. He said her lower abdomen was full of tumors and that she had probably been sick for quite a while and we just didn't notice. The tumors caused a blockage that didn't allow anything to drain. He said there was no coming back from this and that we did the right thing. I am so glad that she didn't have to suffer anymore.

wow, I'm sorry to hear that. you did the right thing. if my sussex does not start eating today, i fear she won't make it. her comb is pale but she's still stronger than a mule. we shall see.

i made her eggs and applesauce yesterday and she wanted nothing to do with it other than eating one piece of egg. she preferred to dig around in the ground. her crop was empty again this morning when i medicated her. she is exhibiting all the classic symptoms of being broody which may be why she don't want to eat and hanging out in a nesting box all day. i have closed off the nesting boxes at night so she has to be on the roost. she is fast clucking, puffing up, insisting on staying in a nesting box, not eating and when she is in the run, any other hen that comes near her she whacks them. I'm thinking she's now broody. i could make her stay in the baby run during the day so she can't get to a nesting box to try and break her but i don't want to stress her while she's still on the heal.
