Springsong padded through the undergrowth, a starling clutched in her jaws."Hunting is so hard for me..I'm surprised I even caught this."
She had a sudden flashback:
She had a growing sense of fear as she wandered through the forest. She wished she hadn't chased that butterfly so far away from the nursery...and her mother and sister. But it was such a pretty blue..."Oh, stop thinking about how you got lost, Springkit, and start thinking about how you are going to get un-lost." She heard a screech, and scrambled under a bush as a hawk swooped over. She shivered. "Let's see...I came from over there, right? Or was it...over there?" She was totally, completely lost. She turned around again, and sprinted in one direction. She came to a break in the trees. As she stumbled into the sunlight, her eyes grew wide. "Whoa...What is this place?" There were heaps upon heaps of foul smelling things, all surrounded by some sort of wall of shiny woven metal. She slipped through a hole in it. She wandered through the heaps, wrinkling her nose at the smell. She saw a pile of big metal cans. One was broken, and leaked foul liquid. As she leaned closer, she lost her footing in the rubbish. She stumbled into the puddle with a splash. She felt some of the liquid splash onto her nose. It burned. She mewled in pain and ran from that place, just as a group of cats came running. "Springkit, what-"
She was broken from her trance as she saw Prairiepaw padded past her, headed for the camp, followed by Hazelpaw and Frosty. She nodded to them and walked into the camp.
