Runny poop!!!!!!!! Help

Im new to BYC and have a question. A few of my chickens have runny poop caramel in color. What can i do to fix this. I have read and hear of owners medicating there birds on a regular basis as a precaution for different diseases. what medications should i be giving my chickens on a reg basis. thanks for your help

We are having same problem going on we have lost 4 silkies in 2 days.. Caramel poo, started then seemed like they started sleeping more then became lathargic stopped eating and drinking then they were gone.. We started giving our 4 marans curid because it looks like they passed it onto them but hopfully we caught it in time.. You can get it from tractor supply and you add 1/2 tsp per gallon of water if you get the 20%.. Will let you know if it works but allot of people here swear by it.. I'm new to raising chickens maybe Somone with more experience can chime in..

Thanks for that advice. I too am hoping a few more offer there expertise on the matter. Im gonna sound like my grandfather here but " in the old days we just let them run wild and let nature take its course." but im wanting to get all the paperwork in order so i can sell eggs chicks hens etc. so gonna get all my ducks in a row lol but please do let me know how it works.

Update it has been 24 hours since they drank there first dose of Curid and all of the chicks were eating like the never had food before I mean jumped right in the food dish scratching and throwing it all over the place everyone of them took turns making the mess lol.. Anyway we had one we were especially concerned about seemed to really be slowing down compared to the other chicks.. Today she/he has seemed to perk up a bit and was just about as spunky as the rest of them.. There poo is still runny and caramel looking but they have also had some less runny poos inbetween .. Will they be cured? I have no idea but at least if I do loose them I can say that I did try and as of right now I'm feeling really good about getting the Curid.. I'll keep you updated... The silkies went downhill within 2 days so I should know something pretty soon.. But if I were you I would start them on it because I've already seen how fast a baby chick will go down hill and it was no pretty sight seeing them lil cotton balls gasping for air .. Btw I see you have chickens I have week old chicks not sure if outcome will be the same.. Also search for milk flush some people have had good results with powdered milk I've seen a few recipes using it it apparently flushes out there intestinal track..

When we had poopie butt/runny poo issues, quite a few people gave me the advice I'm going to give you here. It was cheap and it worked wonders within literally a days' time.

1 tbsp of natural unpasteurized apple cider vinegar (Bragg's and Heinz both make it) PER 1 gallon of water for drinking
Offer plain yogurt mixed in with their feed, or purchase a small tub of Probios probiotic powder from TSC or another farm/feed store (usually around $10 and will last a good while) and add one scoop to, at most, 1 gallon of feed. Shake it up to get the powder to coat the feed.

I don't use medicated feed, because the apple cider vinegar is a natural antibiotic. Baby chicks aren't born with the natural flora (bacteria) in their gut, so the probiotics tend to be the best bet for clearing up excrement issues.

I've never used Curid but have heard good things about it. I'm just offering another course of action if the Curid gets too expensive or doesn't seem to help. I hope your babies get better soon!

It may be something either in/lacking from diet, water source too. Just another idea in the brainstorm here to try to help ya out! Keep us posted.

Every ninth dropping is called the cecal, and is runny, and a caramel color, and smells absolutely foul. It is most likely that. Also, My chickens have the odd dropping that isn't normal, but then goes away. It's funny, when I had chickens when I was little, you never worried about their health, if a chicken died, you got a new one. Now that I have chickens again, I find myself fretting over the little things!

With the rain we've been having in many parts of the US, coccidia can run rampant.

The product you're referring to is CORID. (not curid) I'm not trying to be mean, but if your're going to recommend a medicine, it helps to give the correct spelling and what it treats.
Over use or miss use of a medicine can cause problems too, like resistance.
Check for other signs like bloody poops.
Make sure it is not the cecal poops as that is normal.
Also, check for sour crop - could be a blockage eating new fresh greens
or like I said with all the wet from rain, food/water eaten on or near the ground can get fungus ridden quickly. I've had a loss myself with a couple more looking ill. They have multiple symptoms, so it's hard to identify just what the heck the problem is.
I'm going to rotate the chicken yard and sanitize everything that I can.
