I’m becoming a daily poster to BYC. 9 day old chick, foot injury that I have been cleaning daily. Being raised by momma and 2 other chicks. Yesterday after work noticed the two other chicks are significantly larger. Removed injured chick to clean foot and he had pasty butt. Cleaned and warmed but worried if I should separate from the others. Guilt set in and I couldn’t sleep. Ended up removing her this morning. Feeding chick feed mixed with warm water. Going to store to get medicated feed, vetrycin spray possibly probiotics/electrolytes. Maybe antiboitics? Chick is no longer wobbling or limping, seems to have a good appetite. No weakness/lethargy just way smaller and I thought I’d give her an extra chance by separating but now I’m second guessing and worried it will be hard to get her back with her crew. To recap: would you suggest isolate and treat a few days and would they accept her back? Or just accept that she is just the runt and if no weakness/lameness or pecking just let her be?
Ps I really don’t think antibiotics are needed but worried the foot maybe infected causing sickness and decreased eating? I will post pictures. The foot pad looks crepe and no hardness or fluid as far as I can tell. Posted with and without flash

if shes gets along fine and has a healty appetite and shows no sign of pain i woukd let her go back with the others. look up bumble foot and how to prevent the swelling if you are worried about keeping it clean.

that looks like bruising more then it does a injury.

now is it just me or does your chick have an extra toe?

Do you have any Betadine or iodine? You could paint her foot with iodine and try her back with her chick flock, but make sure that they are not pecking her foot. A red brooder lamp or a red light bulb can reduce pecking in chicks. Just don’t let them get too hot.

Thanks I agree. I just noticed bugs crawling on her when I pet her. How can I identify what they are? Fleas, lice, mites? They are light white/ tan and rice shaped?

I agree it's best not to separate unless you really have to. However, short periods of separation may not be an issue, like if you are treating the foot and feeding it separately.
