RUSH!!!! NEED HELP about incubator

I am going to get my eggs soon and my thermometer/hygrometer isn't going to be in on time. I looked on Petsmart and they have a thermometer/hygrometer for reptiles. would that be ok till I get my other one in? There is no liner in it, so how will I hold water for humidity? I plugged it in to make sure its going to be ok, and I am freakn out

I bought another incubator just in case this one doesn't work. But what should I do till the other one comes in and this one doesn't work.

PLEASE PLEASE HELP

I use a ther/Hy from Walmart and I use sponges and a bowl to put water in.

this is not going to help this OP any, but it might help somebody reading this.. don't "paint yourself into a corner." like this OP has done..

get your incubator fine tuned before you order eggs..

I have many incubators and I have my own egg layers.. I never even begin collecting eggs before I have the incubators tuned..

In their haste, this OP is more than likely to lose all the eggs..

Now, it would help us to know what make of incubator we are supposed to be helping you with..

If it is a LG or Hova you do not need the plastic insert for water.
Look in the bottom compartment and you will see a couple of seperate troughs. you can use them for water.. the outside trough probably has holes in the corners.. don't use that one unless you plug the holes.. Yes, you can plug the holes.. I have done it on all 8 of mine..

go to Walmart or your local farm store and buy a hygrometer and thermometer.. your local pet store probably has them also..

now hurry up and get your bator set before the eggs arrive..

You can keep the humidity up by placing pieces of wet sponge in there. Some use wet rolled up socks. Anything that will stay damp for a period of time. The evaporative surface is what controls the humidity so start with one piece of wet sponge and add others as needed to reach around 45-50 %.

I personally use the Fluckers Hygrometer/thermometer for reptiles and prefer it to the ones you get at Walmart. It is nice and small and is very consistant. I have two that do not give the same reading, so when you get it you should try to calibrate it according to the link below. It really does not matter which brand you use, they should all be tested. Mine differ by 7points in humidity. That is alot. There is just something about the constant damp and heat that makes the less scientific digital ones act up.

Good luck and don't panic even if you don't have a hygrometer at the beginning. Get something in there that will hold moisture and you are good to go. Also you eggs will not perish if you have to hold them for and extra day. Keep them cool and tilt them a couple of times.

You can either put a bowl of water for the humidity or a sponge soaked up with water. I would use the sponge though

I see you have a little problem. Do you want me to wait on sending the eggs. It's ok if you want to have everything ready before I send them. The hens lay everyday. Let me know it's no problem.
