Russian Orloff thread

My ROs were both late layers! One at 33 weeks and the other laid her first today at 42 weeks! Their eggs are the first two on the left in this pic. Light cream, and the one laid today is lighter. The 3rd from the left is a wyandotte egg, and the last one is a welsummer egg.
What a beautiful collection of eggs in the picture on the left!:love

That picture of the Orloff with the egg is so adorable! Congratulations to your new layer! :celebrate

I am hoping my hens will start laying again sometime soon--the CA White is the only one who continued laying into the winter, but now she is molting and has ceased production. Luckily, I still get a couple of quail eggs every day.

Thanks! :love

Hope they start back up for you too! My Wyandotte continued to lay throughout winter, and the Russian Orloffs and one Welsumer started to lay in fall/winter! It's been mild for the most part, but we had several freezing days but lots of sunshine! So interesting learning what conditions affect them. They're each so unique!

Congrats on your new layer!

My RO was the layer in question from my older post and the Wyandotte is still not laying. LOL!!!! But Natasha, the RO has been a trooper laying strong all winter!

After not laying all winter, Orloff laid her first egg of the year this morning and sang the egg song! :celebrate Her eggs are a very distinctive shape; here's a picture: IMG_7831.JPG

I looked back recently at pictures of Orloff as a chick and young pullet, and noticed that up until she was fairly mature-looking she had bright yellow legs. Then her legs changed to off-white/pinkish. Is this a characteristic of the breed?

I don’t know if there’s a more recent RO thread, but just wanted to find other RO owners now that I have one! Just got her this morning 😍 Supposed to be a sexed pullet…but we all know how that goes! Sure is the cutest fluffer!! 😍

My RO is such a good girl. Very sweet and friendly, likes attention and lays almost every day even in the winter. Only issue is she's a bully with younger pullets. She picked on the first flock younger than her and this most recent batch of chicks she's been brutal! She's so docile with everyone else, I have no idea what gets into her with pullets but she's a straight up mean girl. And then she'll come over to me and want to be picked up and cuddles. Chickens!!
