Russian Orloffs

Yes and no....She is producing more white than I'd like...and she's one of my oldest birds (going on four now) so she's slowed down quite a bit with her laying. :( I've been lucky to get two eggs a week from her.

She's actually larger than my two roosters! Her full sister is has less white but awesome spangling.

I am hoping for a few more clutches out of her (next summer will be a BIG hatch for me & my Orloffs). Then I'll be starting a third pen.

Our first attempt at raising backyard chickens. Believe we have a leghorn and 3 Russian Orloffs. We love the spangled pattern, we love this breed. Of course we are excited newbies. We have one Rooster and would love to breed them but, city ordinance says no roosters

May have to get rid of the Rooster.

No Scottish Dumpies for you I guess. So funny.

Rare if she is bigger than the cockerels, how old are they? Some birds take nearly a year and half or two to really reach all their potential. What do you think she is weighing?
Now look, everyone, I called dips first and there's no cutting line

Kenai Peninsula? Where are you at? We know Homer, Ninilchik, Anchor Point, Nicholaivesk. We absolutely love it there. Thanks for the reply.

She's four and one rooster is 3 and the other is around 1.5 yrs old. I should get a weight on her...

I have one Russian Orloff pullet. She is 24 weeks old and I don't think she has started laying as of yet. What color eggs do they lay? I have heard light brownish to beige. She is one of my favorites as she is my tattle tale of the bunch. She looks so comical running across the yard to tell on one of the others. Love this breed so far! :D

Hello again, fellow Orloff fans,

I have discovered some photos on the German Orloff Club website that I believe are invaluable in showing American breeders what their stock ought to look like. To put it bluntly, I think the American Orloff is FAR removed from the Oriental posture it ought to have. From looking at some of these German photos, I am realizing this fact more and more. Of course, I know each country may have a slightly different "style" it promotes, but I do believe the Orloff in America needs to look more like an Oriental gamefowl in build than it does.

Here are two links to show what I mean (the first link especially shows a particularly Oriental-looking cock):

http://www.sv-orloff.de/html/fotoarchiv.htm

Even the black-and-white sketches at various points on that website seem to show birds with tighter feathering, longer legs, and a more muscular build than I have seen in some American examples. What do you all think?

God bless,
~Gresh~

I think that their "rotbunt" which are our spangled, look alot like ours, not stunningly fantastic.

Their mahogany however, looks like what you were talking about. Reallly game lookin in the posture, tighter feathers, very upright and very long neck.

I really like their mahagony.
