Russian Orloffs

You might be right about that... Mr Verrill is who I was chasing and I thought they were the same person but its been a few years and some things don't stick like they used to. You'll have to PM me some pictures :) I understand about the color. mottling and spangling are two of the hardest imo.

Well my deal fell through. My friend has decided not to add any more chickens to his flock right now. However he does have a incubator . And said he would be happy to hatch some eggs for me. So that gives me another option. Thanks for all the help and info.

Slink, you could easily still buy the 25 then turn around and sell the extra as soon as they arrive. If you advertise before they arrive, you might even have folks lined up, tis the season when everyone is starting to get chicks. I don't know if Sandhill sexes their chicks, if so, they would be even easier to sell but given the recent press the Orloff has gotten, you could probably find a straight run buyer or two.

Another option is to run a CraigsList ad to see if anyone else is in the same situation. That's how I got my first birds, teamed up with someone via CL who wanted to place a hatchery order to get breeds our local feed stores didn't carry, but only wanted half the chicks. At the time, I thought wow, 12, I think I could handle that many... Hahaha, at any given time I'm pushing 100 around here, right now I "only" have 54 and the yard look bare!

Well after much thought, I have decided to take your advice. I have filled out my order form with Sandhill . Sand hill chicks are straight run. But that is fine. It will allow me to look at a number of Roosters. Maybe I will get one or two that I really like. Time will tell? Thanks for the advice, and the kick in the pants that I needed. LOL

Well we will see about all that later. My order with payment goes out tomorrow. Shipment is now listed as mid. July. So pics will be some time comming. But really, thanks for all the help , I cant wait !!!!! I also listed Dominique's as a Sub . Just to fill the order if they were short of RO's. This was done in memory of my Mother. She was raised very poor and always told me how she loved the Dominique breed. I have only seen them in pics. But maybe I will keep a few just to see what it was that my Mom loved about them .

GREAT bird choices :) Doms are beautiful and you might find that cuckoo pattern is worth your attention and if you keep up with it I'll try mentoring you in making yourself some barred Orloffs :)
