Russian Orloffs

This is what I follow. meat canning My 98 yr old grandmother told me about how she canned chicken and got me started. My mind isn't always the best at retaining things, so I had to find cheat sheet. lol. I raw can ground chicken as well as chunks. I like the convenience of cooked chicken, too, so I will do some whole bone-in legs/wings or cook some of the chunks. I have seasoned it in the past, but now just do a little salt. It seemed that I could never quite dial in the right amt of spices. I know they will change over time, but decided it was easier to just season when I was using the meat. One thing I would suggest is to use wide mouth jars. They make the whole process, both packing and unpacking, so much easier. I use quarts for everything except the ground. I don't can organ meat, it goes straight to the animals.

That"s a good idea about the food bank. I don't know if they will around here. Hafta look into it though.

Set my Mahogany eggs in the bator tonite, 3 of the 24 still had the air sac floating a bit after sitting for 24 hrs. I will keep you posted on how they are going. The first batch appears to have 4 of the 9 viable when I candled tonite. Temp & humidity have been steady so far.

So sorry! They really do not take too well to the heat and need something to help keep them cool--mister, frozen water bottles, of course lots of shade. This heat is really tough on all the birds. So far I have not lost any more since I got my mister working well again.

Thank you! We've got frozen water bottles and a lot of them

But I won't be geting anymore untill we upgrade the breeding coop (second one) so wll be alittle while. Poor girl keeps hollering for her sister and looking around then gives up and eventually lays lext to another hen who will let her.

I thought she was lovely! Too bad. BUT you are right. Sister shares the same genetics so you can keep working. Sounds like shade clothes might help but jeez. Are you able to dig down a level for them so they have a shaded 'basement' to hang in?
