Russian Orloffs

Well, Out of the 13 pure RO eggs in the inc, 11 have hatched as well as 2 RO mixed test eggs I had in there. I spent all night till about 3:30 am watching egg after egg hatch.

JWEBB, my avatar is my Mottled Orloff Ellie (Elena). She was the only one of 9 eggs that hatched when I first started incubating. She was born July 14 (same as one of my younger sisters). She will follow me all over my acre yard and come when I call her (I named her Eli at first thinking it was a male from day 1 so I still call her that just about every time). I have pics of her posted on previous threads on here but I will post some recent ones from a few weeks ago (also on this thread a few posts back)

Nice babies they look great

o yes I remember now you had thought Ellie was a "Eli". Very pretty!

JWEBB if you're asking how Ellie is a Mottled, I got the eggs from a breeder that has been working on different color/vairety Orloff for some time.

LOL kidding.. but yes she is lovely and I really like the look. And of course I want to learn how to do all these things... Will they include mottled in the proposed US Standard? hope so.

JWEBB as for all the secrets, if I tell you I'd have to kill you so my mouth is shut

lol. I don't know anything about them except I acquired a few eggs last summer & only managed to hatch one. They where 6 mottled & two mixed as it is what I ordered. As for including them in the proposed US Standard, first it has to go through the same process fro acceptance as any variety. Our hope is to eventually have them as well as a few other varieties in the SOP, that being said we first have to adopt one (SOP) and gain APA acceptance. If you look through the photos tab on the facebook group

you will see pics of Ellie's cousin & parents

LOL how did I know you were going to say that!

The summer and various egg purchases promises to be exciting. Yes I need to read some of the proposed items on the FB page too.. I have not yet looked through the photo tab there, today is a good day to do that. I can drool and dream lol.

I have to say I'm enjoying the Orloff people on the FB page~ I was very discouraged at first but wow did it all turn around.

Miss Ellie is just lovely, I really like the spangle and mottled birds.

JWEBB as anything, this is probably the first time that an organized (or maybe a bit disorganized) group has come together for this breed in large numbers IMHO. There are going to be a lot of opinions some agreeing some disagreeing, but together we will move ahead with this breed and eventually gain APA acceptance. There are a lot of great people on the group with vast knowledge on the breed, those are the ones to get the "secret" from as they have work immensely towards breed perfection regardless of a LF SOP. For me, knowing that we have support from the Great Britain Russian Orloff Society and The Orloff Club of Germany makes it all the more worthwhile to invest time into bringing the RO forward by working in collaboration with the members, breeders, and newcomers to the breed. It's not something that will happen overnight but if with put the effort into it, we will make a difference. BTW, I posted a video of an RO chick hatching out, thought the members might enjoy since everyone was on the edge of their seats waiting for pics.

O great!!! love the vids of the little baby muffs!!

I agree wholeheartedly, the support for the European groups really is a gift and will surely help the efforts here to put together a good program.

Took the chicks out to take pics. Had them all in a basket by the window sunbathing, grabbed the camera, powered on, battery's dead. Returned chicks to brooder, charging battery, lol.
