Russian Orloffs

Found this today under the roost when scooping in the RO house. I have a pullet that occasionally lays flat sided wonky eggs from the roost I assume since that is where I find them. When I have ladies to replace her she will go. The fart egg is sitting on a milk jug lid for size reference!
The milk jugs we get have smaller caps so I can't tell just how small it is but have you tried incubating some that are that small to see if they would hatch, to see if they would be normal chickens rather than deformed and to see if they grow up to be normal sized? I'd be interested. I get smaller eggs now and then, not that small, but I am not good at keeping records, it's a work in progress, so I don't know if the chicks grow as fast as the others. Oh, yes, I did keep an eye on one but it turned out not to be fertile.

"Fart" eggs are a hiccup in the egg system and I just can't understand why anyone would want to intentionally try to hatch for a 'freak' chicken that would probably have to be culled. No offense to anyone, it just doesn't sound like a good idea. Yes the tiny egg had a tiny yolk but it was also the size of a wren egg.

Well Cknidy, I did it to show my kids and grand kids that they wont hatch and I have never had one hatch but you are correct it would have to be put down or one might have a chicken the size of a quail or something like that .....

But yes I do see your point but some times things are used for teaching and when it comes to teaching kids I am still open to a lot of things ... Here let me explain back in the 1960's I was sent to summer camp and some of the things we did are not allowed at all like canoe sinking or shooting a .22 rifle the bow & arrow or Archery is still dune but the long walks in the dark are out only a 30 minute night walk and that is it so now I know why it is only Sunday till Friday and not 15 days anymore just things change over time something once excepted later not excepted like when I was a kid a chemistry set was a chemistry set anymore it is a glass of water and food coloring and that is about it .........

Anyway thank you and you are correct again it is a good thing they do not hatch oh almost forgot have a great weekend .........

ROFL No, I didn't mean to intentionally see if it would be a freak. I just mainly wondered if it would hatch.

fart eggs, used to be called wind eggs. they were thought 100 or so yrs. ago to be laid by roosters because they have no yolk in them. i have gotten rather small eggs for the breed about half sized and i did hatch it. it needed help at hatch , stayed small and at full growth was quite smaller then its clan. it lived about a yr. and was part of the flock. a true wind egg will not hatch. i collect mine now, seem to get my fair share, and i blow them out and paint them. very cute . no one believes they are real. LOL i have a special nest in the house i use to keep them for decoration.

UMMMMM.... hi ! they call me granny HATCHET !!!
