Russian Orloffs

If your getting an egg every 2 or three days, you are doing well with Orloffs. They typically 150 eggs or so per year and are not known as good egg layers. Molting often occurs in the fall and it will affect egg laying rate. Personally, I would not worry about your hen. Sounds like she is doing just fine.

Some new photos of my Russian Orloffs, they are 6 months old now. Had some serious predator issues with the Red Tailed Hawks this year. They have never bothered the chickens before, but this year they started picking them off one at a time when they were free ranging. So everyone now lives in the coop/run, and only gets free range time when I'm supervising. Luckily I think I have 2 pullets and 2 cockerels that will be worth hanging onto. Plus I'll be keeping my "excessive white" boy, because he's cute :)

Beauties - ALL of them!!! I've seen excessive white RO pullet photos before but your white boy is stunning. Is there any way to breed these white sports as a new variety within the breed? I haven't a clue as to what to call this new coloring - it's not really mottled, or paint, or splash, but certainly warrants some kind of identification other than "excessive white." LOL! Because of predator issues and the gentle nature of ROs some might not be too keen with this new white sport but then people have Light Sussex, White Leghorns, White Rocks, White Jerseys, so why not continue this unique white RO. "Unique" will be a cute name for this beautiful boy!

I'm currently asking on the genetics threads if people know what the exact genetics are behind this color/pattern. It doesn't seem to be completely unknown, if you go to the RO "page" on this forum, the sample photos are birds similar to mine.

And the breeder my birds are from said they have gotten a couple like him. I'm guessing it's some sort of speckling gone wild LOL Where he has colored feathers, they do still have the mahogany and black on them, there just aren't that many showing through the white.

All your birds are precious! I would love any one of them! But I get really excited when a sport shows up in a breed. These sports are real keepers in my mind! GL!

I ordered two Russian orloffs from ideal poultry but they look very similar to my Ameraucana. Are these even Russian orloffs?

Some of my RO chicks ..

Even more chicks ..

And again more ..

Some of my EE chicks ..

Ya hop on mom ....

If you look at the center chick in the photo with its back to you that is a RO chick next to some EE chicks so you can see the difference for your self .. Also the one to the left at the top of the photo with the three together facing you is also a RO chick ...... But look at the head the comb will be a flat red piece of skin and even the EE chick will have something very small but standing up ......

I would have to say you called that one right you got EE chicks there ..
