Thanks a lot, I feel a little better.

Actually, white dominates all leg colors if the white-legged bird is pure for white.

I suspect the white legs are coming from infusions of speckled sussex in that particular Russian Orloff line.

Just wanted to see what y'all think of my roosters. I got them for free from another BYC member close to me. You know, what they say, "Anything free is worth saving up for!"

Thanks! It took me long enough to find some in my area! I got them from 'babszoo's' brother. He said he got them when they were chicks from a guy getting rid of his flock. He also had excellent looking Barnevelders, Dorkings, and cochins - from the same guy - so I was hoping these were good too. He only had to get rid of them because they were fighting with 'Bubba.'

Doggone...it took me long enough to read all these pages LOL. Anyway, I had a great time reading about them but I have a couple questions as well. I have only one and he will be 1 year old in early April. He was a surprise as he was in the assorted pullets bin at TSC hehe. One question was about the egg production after the first year? Several people have asked but no one has really been able to say. I wouldn't mind to try to do my part to help the breed but I know my wife mostly wants chickens for eggs (granted we don't need a ton or anything but would like a decent supply). Secondly, it's about the leg color. I read something about the "white/pale" legs and I can't find it now but the gist of it was that that coloration was more rare. So, is that what it could have been originally or just a recessive trait from breeding along the way?

The white legs are due to crossing with speckled sussex. The correct color for the legs is yellow. I am culling any of mine that have white legs.
They lay best the first year but do lay a bit after that. They tend to be very broody the second year onward though. Not the best breed for egg production, but not terrible either.
I'm no expert now, so maybe someone else will chime it too.
