Quack-Quack is 7 weeks old and I have been trying to train since 1 or 2 weeks then had to give up because the temps got ruined and he/she out grew them to fast. I have agin started training at 4 weeks old. No the entire tail isn't supposed to fit in the pouch but so I'm sure I get the pooper covered I strech the harness out a bit while securing it. Quack-Quack stil fights the diaper too, he will put his chest on the floor for the intial put on but if I take to long he starts to back up or take off on me. I hold him on the floor in between my legs to put it on, my fiancee turns him around and does it the complete opposite.
I think they can still be trained at 6 weeks. I think if a person can do it BEFORE they are mature (5 months?) the better it will turn out. Quack-Quack is 7 weeks has had a total of probably 5 weeks training in his life and still hates having it on, literally pouts, or dances around for a minute sqwaking.

Whoever thinks ducks are not smart animals should have seen the master minded plan my two ducks defeated me in today.

Our drake got awful lonely while his sweetheart was sitting on eggs, so I let him hang out inside with me. It started with him in the tiled foyer for a few days, then he hopped on top of the box that was blocking off the foyer. He would watch tv or the window, preen and sleep on it.
But then he started hopping down to come stand by or follow me. I'd point and tell him to get back on his box, which he would. But then he mastered getting off the box without making any sound, so I couldn't hear him and wouldn't notice until I turned around and there he was.
I eventually caved and let him stay on the tile in the kitchen, which I could at least clean up easier than the carpet. I established that the carpet was a no go zone. So, he would lay right on the edge of the tile and the carpet.
I tried putting a makeshift diaper on him, but he was not having any of that. I felt like I was torturing him. He really likes being inside though, and I can see why folks do it.
I would even say I'm a bit jealous!

The poo really isn't that hard get off the carpet, well, most of it isn't that hard, some of it you have to take a cloth to no matter how long tissue sits on it. I do not leave Quack-Quack's diaper harness on all the time. He/She doesn't sleep in it and I only leave it on for about 3 hours at a time, 4 at the most and then we go out for as long as we can (weather dictates).
When Quack-Quack poos on the floor I put some toilet paper over it for as long as possible (at least 5 minutes), give it some time to soak up in to the tissue and not down in to your carpet. The dryer it is the easier it is to pick up but there will ALWAYS be at least one or 2 a day that to wet and I need to take a wet cloth to. I also put 2 bath towels under an old bed pillow with a pillow case on it on the couch and permit only that spot for him/her to be on the furniture. . . .
Just some ideas for you. . .

i lost my duck about a month ago... but she thought she was a dog.... would quack at the door like the dogs... would lay around with the dogs... drink and eat outta the same bowls.... i used to cut a pantyliner in half and put it in her diapers for moisture absorption, that worked really well and it stayed in place!

All of these just made me feel a lot better. People with ducks that get it. Ahhh , I know it's crazy to most people when they see you have ducks inside. But I love these guys and they are part of the family now. We are still trying to get them on just right and get them adjusted and I bet if we keep at it it will work out. They love being inside, and as far as outside they love it too, but only if we are out with them. We have concrete floors in the whole house with a few rugs, so picking up and mopping sucks, but its not hard to clean up after them. Thank you all for continuing to make a new duck mom feel better and not so crazy about having ducks!!!!

I have ran across a dilemma if anyone who is familiar with the harnesses can help me. I do not want to put a diaper on Quack-Quack while we are outside at the parks and lakes, so I was wondering if anyone has figured out a way to have their ducks on a leash/harness WITHOUT the diaper potion of the harness, is there another kind of harness to use?

My husband just helped me try it again and he somehow got it off. They will be 6 weeks old next week, my husband thinks they are too old to get used to them and he also thinks all of there rear end including their tail feathers are supposed to go in the back. Any advice and help?? Please tell me I did not just waste 70 dollars!! I know they will work but how do you get them to be still??? Please help!!!

I didn't start diapering my duck until she was 4 or 5 months old. At first, she'd act like a maniac trying to get it off, but I was persistent, and I made her wear it every day for at least a half hour or so. Now, months later, she lets me put it on without a fuss (usually) and doesn't pick at it much. Your ducks will adjust too! It just takes time and patience.

I started diapering Soleil when she was around a week and half to two weeks old. She got used to it very quickly. The more you diaper the more they will get used to the routine.

My experience with Party Fowl was not as good, I sent a message trying to order a custom duck harness, and didn't get a reply for 2 weeks, so I sent another message. This time I got a response and so I asked what fabric patterns she had as they were not listed and if I could mail in spandex paying the same rate (just to use up spandex I had). I didn't hear back for 3 weeks until she asked if I wanted to place an order yet, not answering any of my my previous queries. She had no etsy feedback at the time, just some harnesses listed, so hopefully she has gotten improved customer service.

I am a regular eBay and Etsy buyer, as I prefer to support individuals with talent rather than buy from major manufacturers. I bought from The Gooses Mother previously until Nancy passed on, and her products were impeccable! My diapers from her are still on my ducks today.
