Im sure it was the heat. Ideal said they have never lost that many in one shipment. They were very sorry and offered to refund or replace. I told them refund as I am afraid that would happen again. I blame our postal system more tha Ideal. Yes Ideal shouldnt offer to ship them when the weather is like it has been but the way our postal system is here they acted like they had never had chicks sent through them before. The springfield office which is about 40 miles from me said I could pick them up from their warehouse but I work full time and the thought of them sitting in a warehouse til whenever I could get there doesnt sit right with me either. I drove 98 miles one way to get the chicks I got yesterday and that was ok with me cause I knew how they were getting home and that they would be safe. From now on I will be getting any chiks I get either locally or hopefully one day hatching my own. I am getting ready just got me an incubator and now I have way too many roosters that I have to rehome some, but plan on keeping 2. Anybody want a rooster
