Sad find in the pond

I am very sorry about your duck!!!! Yep snappers will easily take prey...however, by the sounds of it whatever killed your duck attacked it before it was in the water. Most snappers hunt in the water (ambush).

When your hubby gets it out , i hope he checks it over might be able to easily tell what got it that way. A snapper would take one huge hole out of it. Where as a fox or a bird of prey woudl most likely just have major puncture wounds.

I do agree with some of the others that said it was attacked on land and then escaped to the water before dying.

Snappers killed a whole flock of pekins from some local pond/duck owner.

I don't think there would have been feathers in the yard if it was a turtle. Sounds like something attacked it on land (probably where the feathers start) and the duck got away and into the pond for safety, then died of it's wounds where the preditor couldn't reach it.
