Sad news that happened on the 4th :(

So sorry to hear about Honey and Beaker. I lost three last night, I'm pretty sure to a weasel since we'd seen weasel tracks in the snow over winter. Their poor little bodies were just in the woods behind the coop. It's devastating, but we live in the country and I guess even wildlife have to eat. We had a system for ventilating the coop on hot nights, but sadly the metal gate to their hatch wasn't in put in place properly and this was the result. We've spent this morning putting vents high up and won't rely on our old system again. We'd put out a snare if not for the cats. I loved those birds, and it's heartbreaking to lose them so violently.

Were not sure what they were we got them from a friend when we went over to visit and these were the 2 that bonded with us out of the rest.

Sorry for your loss. It's so tough when you thought you were protecting them adequately and
SOME BLASTED STINKING TERRIBLE SNEEKY BLANKETYBLANK thing

finds it's way around your protections.

Yes my feelings exactly I feel bad for my wife. It was her idea to have chickens and I grew to love the idea and love them like a pet. After some more grieving and predator proofing we will get 2 more hopefully similar looking.

So sorry for your loss, keep holes 1/4" * 1/4" or smaller.

I have two black Ameraucana * JG crosses and two Golden Ameraucana* EE crosses, you are welcome to them- I do not know their gender.

Mama EE - (not pictured yet)

They look a lot like the ones you lost. (see my location) you'll need to find a way to get them. (pictures soon)

FireTigeris, that is a very kind offer.

Thank you very much. I have asked the wife if she wanted some more right away and she sadly said no, not right now. So I guess she just needs some time

Plus that will give me some time to predator proof it.

I'm so very sorry for your loss, it's never easy to lose a pet. I kept telling myself when we first got chickens that they were "livestock" and only for egg production. Then I made the mistake of naming them and of course enjoying all of their antics and they became pets. We have a lot of raccoons, opossums, hawks, eagles, etc here in the Pacific NW so we really have to take extra precautions.

RIP Honey & Beaker

Thank you everyone for the support and kind words.

Would putting a chain link fence around the coop with some type of wire over the top of it do the trick? Also thinking about installing some motion detected lights as well on the back side of the house.
