Saddest thing ever witnessed

I have a German Shepherd and want another dog, escpecially after today, what do you suggest?
We have two Livestock Guardian Dogs; one is a Pyrenees and the other is a Pyrenees/Maremma. After searching information online, we chose these breeds mainly for their lack of aggression towards humans and their easy-going nature. Our son was young and had friends over. Naturally, safety was paramount. The dogs have not disappointed...both dogs are aloof with strangers. Both dogs are from working parents on the same large sheep farm, 2 years apart but from different parents.

The Pyrenees is 7 and this is his first year being in this yard 100% of the time. He's been excellent with the chickens, especially with not growing up with them. I forgot he was down here and I let the chickens out to free range. He is good with our free range bunnies and our cats but he's killed two mink.

If you have neighbours, please know that these breeds can be up most of the night and that can involve barking. Due to their large size, deworming and vet procedures cost considerably more; both dogs are over 100 pounds. They require a sizable method of transportation. We wanted large sized dogs to deal with coyotes and wolves. (Our sheep flock had been attacked in 2010.) But they don't eat any more than our Collie cross. There are various breeds of LGDs that may be more suitable for your particular situation. I'd research the various breeds to find the one that will work best for you. :)

I took this 4 days ago. :p

I’m sorry, that IS sad. Brave mama.

We also have a Great Pyrenees LGD with our 5 goats & free range chickens. We got her after losing 3 goats to a coyote last summer & have had no losses since then. We were lucky enough to find someone selling off their livestock so they no longer needed her. She was 3 & had already been raised with goats & chickens so was able to take her new job on right away.

The chicks have calmed down and all dust bathed before going to bed. Will be walking the creek every morning and everytime after locking birds up,and a few times during the day.We ordered wolf pee to help the situation and hopefully get a few traps, will be going to end of property soon to see if I can catch them in action, hoping to just run them off but if my dog gets a little crazy, not going to necessarily stop her ‍♂️.Hoping trap any and all predators that way I don’t have to kill anything, can’t animal control take them and send them on their way?

i had a massive fox attack 2 months ago and it was a mangy fox he has killed 28 chickens in total out of our neighborhood:hit But now we have 27 chicks:jumpy:clap And the fox that attacked our chickens has babies and some people are taking care of them and feeding them dead chicken! So now they have a taste for chicken! OH GREAT. And now the babies are mangy too!

Great Pyrenees are awesome livestock dogs. They're super gentle and calm and protective of any and all livestock that you show a liking too. Plus they are I need of good homes because people are getting rid of them when they decide to retire from the farm life. They also tend to mentor your other dogs into behaving the same way as they do.

I’ve been reading all day about detering them, they have started a war and I we will most definitely will.Am keeping chickens locked up that’s way If it wants a chicken it’s gonna have to dig and rip through all two sets of fencing.By then my dog will have probably seen and heard the fox.
