Saddle feathers

there are, personally i would pick the lighter one if you decide you want a rooster, i see that he is a brahma mix and brahmas are generally a pretty docile breed. if you dont like the crowing you can put a no crow collar on him, mine wears one. if you do plan on keeping him you will need to get more pullets
We researched about brahma's and that is why I was REALLY hoping the lighter one was a pullet. I would love a brahma!! Some of the hens from the barnyard flock the eggs came from are Brahma's.
I have researched the no crow just in case. Sounds like you have had a good experience using one?
We actually have 8 ten month old hens. One went broody. We have homes lined up for whatever pullets we do not want and had found someone to butcher our cockerels in trade for half to keep for themselves. We knew to figure that part out before hatching any eggs😄😄

ok,i didnt realise you had other chickens. brahmas are great chickens, they are so sweet

Here is a pic of Amethyst at 3 months. His wings are very splotchy, his hackles are long and thin like hair, and his comb and waddles are big and red. Also his tail is starting to grow out the sickle feathers.

These are the two light ones.

Of the two light ones, I think I'm seeing a male and a female, or else a male and a slower-developing male.

One is generally darker in color (more black in the head feathers, more gray or black in the breast, and so forth); he has a redder comb, and I think it's a rose or cushion comb (wider than a normal pea comb.) I'm pretty sure that one is male, based on the photos from today that contain both of the light birds.

The other is overall lighter in color (less black/gray in the feathers, more white), and has a pea comb which is smaller and less red than the other. Pea combs tend to be smaller than other comb types, so I'm guessing by comb color, not comb size. I'm thinking maybe female, but a late-developing male would not surprise me either. I would keep this bird around for a while longer and watch development.

I'm seeing the differences especially clearly in the photo where both birds are on the porch, with a door and a bowl in the photo. (I can't seem to quote the photo, but it's in the post I did quote.)

Both have feathered feet and are colored like Light Brahmas, but I'm seeing extra toes which makes me wonder who their other ancestors are :)
