Safe Tree Limbs for Perches

A new coop is in the works, and fixing up an old one is in the future. A few trees here could use a bit of pruning, and there are some limbs that would make nice chicken run perches. I've heard that some types of wood should not be used with chickens, probably referring to shavings/bedding. What kind of tree limbs are safe, and should they be treated with anything to keep them clean? I have peach tree, cherry tree, and juniper limbs available. Thanks!

I only know of cedar trees being bad. Do the juniper trees smell like juniper?

They do have an odor. And they have berries, which I would need to remove just in case.

I would leave them out then and stick to beaches that won't have an odor

I don't even know what branches I have in my coop and run. Just pick whatever is fairly straight, smooth (or plan on removing bark or sanding it down) and sap free.

Whatever is easiest for you to attach. Straighter is better. Some strong wood that won't bend or snap. They like both large and small diameters, but some medium between is safe.
