"Well, hunting a cheetah, but sadly you got into the way and an arrow pierced you." Avery simply answered his question, but twisted it.

The human scanned around once he was back on his feet. "Oh...I got in the way of your hunting?" He scrunched his hair with his fingers. "Well I'm sorry I got in the way."

Avery sighed in relief, knowing he got on the right track, but as long as the other Sages play along.
