Sally's GF3 thread

The lotus leaf pills won't be here until Tuesday. (Yes, even this will NOT make me sign up for Prime, Amazon. :tongue)

I've also heard some things about oregano, which I have growing in the herb garden by the door, as well as the usual stuff in the cupboard. I can probably get oregano oil somewhere locally.

I'm going to do some more digging on that.

Amazon prime is good for peeps that purchase much from Amazon. My #3DD does such, and gets her moneys' worth. I purchase items from Amazon when it comes with free shipping. (nothing is really free,,,, just incorporated into price) If amazon item has additional shipping,,,,,, I have DD purchase it for me.

I have used Oil of Oregano in the past for self. It is not a miracle cure-all. It is a natural antibiotic though. :thumbsup Comes in tiny containers, and somewhat pricey.
Not sure, but think, Oil of Oregano was used hundreds of years prior to penicillin being invented.

Ah! For what, and how did you use it, if you'd care to share that info?

I know there are a lot of "natural remedies" out there that have a lot of merit. The fact that we (Westerners) are just now bringing them somewhat into mainstream tells you what a stranglehold the pharmecutical companies have.

Watch the hour of news around dinner time. Count how many ads are for some kind of prescription med.

And yet, the medicines that they come up with DO SAVE many lives. I am not opposed to them, but in some (many?) instances, there are other, better ways.

Like my cholesterol. My total cholesterol (TC) is in the high range, my LDL is borderline high. I have told my doctor that I do NOT want to be on drugs for anything, as long as I can find a different way. He is ok with that. But he does want me to get my numbers down. (Since my HDL is very good, he said he was not worried about me. My overall health is very good to excellent.)

It was about 10 years ago. My Friend, and his wife gave me that small vessel of it. 1 Ounce fluid.

They were using it for first sign of a cold, and such. About 2 drops on tongue, 2 times per day.
I used it for same reasons.
Like I said,,, it did not seem to be the magic cure claimed by my friend and his spouse. :idunno
Friends wife was into all homeopathic type treatments. Refused to take Covid vaccine.
In my family,,,, we are all vaxed and boosted.

I know a lot of people who refused to get vaccinated. I could see their point: This is a vaccine that was rushed through, people were still getting Covid after getting it; did anyone really know if there were long term repercussions, and, the pharm companies would be held harmless for any damage.

BUT! (big but!) were hub and I ready to roll the dice and see if we would get Covid or get really sick if we did? We wanted to go visit his dad, and that is the main reason we got the first shot. (What if we were asymptomatic and took it to Dad?) We also, for the first time ever, got flu shots. We've gotten flu shots and all the boosters since.

Everyone on our road except us got Covid. Some got pretty sick, but no one went to the hospital. (There are 5 houses on our road.) One couple got the vaccine, still got sick, but not too badly. We got the vaccine, and unless we were asymptomatic, we were the only ones who didn't get sick. We're not the youngest people on the road either.

Why did we not get sick? We mostly stayed home. We wore masks. Did that make the difference? Dunno.

The lotus leaf pills came today. Pip got a 450 mg dose this afternoon. So did one of the other girls; when momma is handing out ANYTHING, they all want some.

Pip has laid an soft, almost shell-less egg the last two nights. I'm trying to get as much calcium down her gullet as possible. If I do the "pull down on wattles and stuff the whole pill in," it's a real struggle. She does NOT like that, and then avoids me. So I'm cutting the pills into pieces, putting a dab of peanut butter on them, and trying to get as many of those to her as possible.

But everyone else likes those too. Sigh.

Just a idea. Cut pill into small pieces, and stuff those pieces into 1, Moist cat food, ,, Or,,,,,,,, 2, small grape pieces.
All my chickens gobble both with no hesitation. :drool:drool

I have switched to calcium carbonate +D for Pip. This could be a long term treatment, I think...

Pip was in one of the nest boxes today. It's the first time I've seen her in there since this all happened. She didn't lay an egg, so I'm not sure if she was "just trying it out." Some of my older hens have done that before coming back into lay.

I think I'll get a bag of layer feed. I need a crumble style, as that's what they've eaten their whole lives. I'll be in town, so I'll look to see what TSC has. Whatever I get, I'll be mixing it with the Kalmbach 20% Flock Maker they get now.
