Sally's GF3 thread

The vent fan and light are installed and hooked up. Oh, man, what a luxury! Light over the shower is... wow. How did we wait so long to do this???

Ok, enough swooning about that.

Most of the drywall is up and mudded. Some more sanding, and then I said I'd do the priming/painting, since that's something I can do. We'll probably just do the primer to seal the drywall until we get the shower installed. Then we'll take a scrap of the shower (the hole we have to cut for the shower head?) to the store and pick out a color of paint that will go with it, or even pick up one of the colors (blues/teals).

Putting in the shower will be... nerve wracking. Hubby is "pretty sure" he can do the plumbing with Pex. We need to make a trip to Home Depot, as Menards does not carry SharkBite fittings, which are the ones many people have recommended.

We have to take out the old tub, the tub walls, and the tongue and groove cedar behind them. I'm not sure what surprises the builder left back there.😬

Since this is the only shower/tub we have, we will be shower-less until the new one is installed, plumbed, and leak-free.

Maybe we could ask a neighbor if we could use their shower... if the job runs over two days...? Using the hose outside... eh, maybe if it's in the next couple of days. But once the sun-warmed water is out of the hose, the well water is COLD no mater how warm it is outside.

We'll put in a spring tension shower curtain rod for the short term. I went to Your Shower Door (store) and got an idea of cost and turn around time on a custom glass sliding shower door. They come out and measure, then it's about two weeks and they come out and install. About $2000. I was fearing it would be more like $3K, so I'm okay with that price.

I really want this project done and over with. Once the shower is in, I can relax. Let someone else worry about getting the shower door done and installed. Everything else is niceties and finishing touches.

Hubby is coming up with something kind of cool for the doors for the cabinet under the sink. Right now, it's open and is a place for his tools. :gig All the "stuff under the bathroom sink" is in a box out in the living room.

If you have a food processor, it is VERY easy to make your own. And you can make ANY kind of nut butter -- almond, anyone? -- for a lot less than you can buy it.
Oh wow that is amazing, I did not know that! I learn something new every day.... I actually just got a food processor!

I cannot wrap my mind around $2000 for a shower door.
:th
Wellllll.... It's two large sheets of 3/8" thick glass, 78" tall by 30" wide. We're going to get the outside surface with a pattern, and that's probably about a $400 upgrade.

Plus they have to build the frame to hold it, etc., and install it.

I know what a pain that size of glass is to work with, so I'm not really surprised.

The shower pan, panels, trim, shelves, and adhesive were probably more. And that's just the materials. We plan to do the work ourselves.

There are LOTS of ads on TV right now for places that redo bathrooms. I'm betting they are charging over $20k.

If we were planning to move, this would be a big upgrade to the house. Instead, we'll enjoy it for the rest of our lives.
