Sally's GF3 thread

That pretzel goes away today. Hubby is plumbing the new shower with Pex.

I took some "before" pictures that I'll post when I have "after" pictures.

Hubby took the new light over the tub off so that I could paint the ceiling. Wow, it's amazing how quickly I got used to having a light there. 6 days without it (2 coats primer, 3 coats of paint, and one day that I didn't have time to paint), and the tub is dark and gloomy. Just as it has been for the 30 years we've lived here.

Do you have to correct this?
No, the copper pipe will stay. We'll make a fix with Pex.

Easy peasy. And cut offs for ten years from now when something needs to be fixed/replaced.

The drain, however is a major PITA. We would be totally done now, but for that.
The drain in the new shower is not the same diameter as the old. Lots of connectors, adapters, rings, fittings, and messing around. It still isn't right (ie, it leaks), so tomorrow requires another (4th) trip to the hardware store, which is about 12 miles away.

Hubby has said after this, he is DONE doing plumbing. I don't blame him, and I don't want to deal with him dealing with plumbing again either.

Tomorrow is another day. In fact, it's Day Two of the shower project.

Is the old drain pipe an odd size or it's just taking the right combination of adapters to work?

No idea. But it's 45 years old.... Have things changed since then? I don't know if the builder did his own plumbing. But I swear he didn't know what a carpenter's square was. Or a level. Or the meaning of the word "plumb." No, it's not a stone fruit.

Uh, no. There are a few more slow downs. There will be a Day Three. Maybe Four. Oh well. As long as it's done before October 9th!!

Freya thought dad was doing a good job.

We had to level it a bit. Well, a lot. I'm sure the glass doors need to sit on a level edge.

The inch+ at the edge will need something. Not sure what. There are a LOT of little things that will be done at the end. That space. The space on either side of the sink. Etc. Etc. It will certainly be a one-of-a-kind bathroom.

I can't back up any more to get more of it in. But that's ok. The caulk has to cure for 24 hours, so it still isn't useable. But it's the last sink bath night!
:thumbsup
We still need to:
put up the trim pieces
put in the corner shelves
put in the water fittings

We'll jury rig the shower curtain for now, and Monday I call Your Shower Door and ask them to come out and measure and take our money. And please bring the samples of the texture options for the glass so hubby can pick one out.

I feel like I can breathe again now. Man, this was stressful!

Looks beautiful. Good job.
