I pulled (7) 5-gallon buckets of weeds today. Either I was very industrious, or very behind on weeding. Yeah, the latter.

Does anyone remember the song, "Here's to the Crabgrass"? It popped into my head while I dug up lots of crabgrass. I couldn't recall much of the lyrics, so I made up my own.

Here's to the crabgrass!
(At least it's not brome grass!)
In fact, here's to all the damn weeds.

That's as far as I got. You're spared.

I used to write Silly Sally Songs; not so much anymore. I blame it on reading the alternate song lyrics to well known songs that Mad Magazine used to have. This was decades before Weird Al. Oh, and on my early exposure to Tom Lehrer. Does anyone remember (or know of) him? He was before my time, but my parents had one of his albums.

Little known fact: Tom Lehrer invented the Jello shot. :lau

I still recall Mad Magazine and its silly songs. There was a Star Wars musical that I thought was pretty funny. "You'll hear a wookie let out a roar, each time we sing off key..."

I'll go look up Tom Lehrer.

My parents had Vaughn Meader's The First Family and Welcome to the LBJ Ranch albums, from the early 1960s.

I liked Spike Jones (and His City Slickers), especially the William Tell Overture :gig

Yup, mine did too. My mom told me that after JFK was assassinated, it was "instantly bad taste" to admit you owned it.

I listened to it several times. :lau

I know what my hubby was doing when he heard about the assassination. He was a baby getting a bath; his dad came in and told his mom the news. I have no idea what I was doing. I was a toddler. I never thought to ask either of my parents what they were doing when they heard.

We're supposed to get storms around noon. Right now, it's just starting to get a bit cloudy. Well, cloudy on top of the smoky haze in the air from the wildfires. I'm not even going to go to the garden to try to get anything done before it storms. My upper chest aches from being outside yesterday.

The storms could be severe; we're in a level 2 out of 5 risk zone. High winds, heavy rain, damaging hail, and a slight risk for a tornado. My prep is going to be to move my garlic into the garage so it can't blow away.

@U_Stormcrow, if you lived nearby I'd give you some; I feel badly that you lost all yours.

I was 3, I don't recall JFK's assassination. An older friend of mine said Meader's career nose-dived after Kennedy died, he did too good a job impersonating the President.

I remember the Presidential motorcade skit, it broke me up. :gig

How about you stay safe, instead! We'll be thinking of you, and hoping the TorCon2 warning greatly overestimates the chances of formation, for you and all your neighbors
Thank you.

We had a few brief heavy downpours, but no wind to speak of, and no hail. South of us got more rain, and there are power outages at the southern edge of the state, so they probably had some wind.

We're about to get a hot couple of days (90s with high humidity), but nothing compared to what many are dealing with. And yes, I said, "couple of days." DH may gripe about it, but I think I'd slap my face if I did. Too many are really suffering.

The new neighbors are here! They seem very nice... and very young. We were about their age when we moved here; did everyone else here think we were young? :gig

They're from Midland (Michigan, not Texas), so they do know about Michigan winters. (The former owner of the house thought they were from Indiana, for some reason.) They do have an all-wheel drive vehicle, and a Tacoma truck. Whew. I was afraid they were going to find out the hard way that the roads back here can be difficult in the winter.

Like one neighbor who was surprised that "nobody plows back here." Nope, the county stops a 1/4 mile away. To hire it done (12+ years ago) would have been $60-75 a trip.

That guy didn't last.
