Last summer, DH got some 10 foot, U-channel fence posts from where he works. They had built some (Covid related) signs for one of the local hospitals. When the hospital didn't need the signs any more, they said, nah, we don't want the posts. DH asked if I wanted them for garden fence posts. Uh, yeah. That took a millisecond to decide. That was about $1350 in posts! For free!

Well, they have more posts that another customer didn't want. Do we want another two dozen...? Hey, we have some cattle panel we don't need either. Want that?

Pinch me. I must be dreaming.
People are careless with other people's money. Someone, the state/local government/tax payers, paid for the posts and fencing. Those that are discarding it don't care about waste.

But I am happy for you!

Yup. Plus, it would be "too much hassle" to find a way to dispose of them. These are heavy duty posts that probably weigh 35? 40? pounds apiece. And 10' long, so awkward to move and/or store.

I'm surprised they didn't want them for scrap metal, at least!

My DH's boss who has the cattle panel has "another job" as a farmer, so he knows what that's worth. He just doesn't need it and wondered if we had a use for it in the garden or with the chickens.

While we were there, this guy said 2-3 times how much he misses my husband working there. DH only works when they need him to fill in for someone on vacation, or an extra pair of (very skilled) hands.

What might this be?

It was in the basement of the old house we burned down. Hubby thought it might be an oil burner...? Some kind of heater...?

I used a couple cattle panels as trellises this year:

Just a suggestion, since you have an extra.

The last two nights, I've been doing lock up after dark, wearing my headlamp with the red light on. Then I can look in and see who has roosted where, without them getting too excited and moving around.

Tonight, there were 8 (!) on the 4' long roost, and 3 on the poop board below. This is the first time they've ALL been on that roost. Four of those on the roost were the Bielefelders.

Where did you get your red light headlamp?

Ummm. I don't know. Hubby probably ordered it online...? It has white light as well. I really like it, as it has White-bright, white-dim, white-flashing; and the red has a flashing option as well.

Hm. Maybe a camping/hiking store or website would have something? The flashing option would be helpful as a signal. If you're lost, a flashing light is a good way to be seen.

I have quite a few headlamps. Some go back to my frequent spelunking days. That is where the caveman name comes from. :old
Below is a pix of the one with the RED light mode. The red light eases the shift to night vision. Had this one for some time now. It is Eveready brand. Just like with everything these days,, that model is probably no longer produced,, but many other ones, and more improved are out there.
The all different features like flashing, and different light intensities, are part of all flashlights, headlamps now produced. To me it is somewhat annoying, since I usually just use one mode. Full bright, and occasionally RED.
Found some on Amazon that may fit your needs. There are so many to choose from, and are priced reasonably.

Kind of like the one . Link below.
