When I started to have chickens I bought a bag of Wal-Marts cheap "eggmaker".
First of all, it is not really cheap, because the bag only holds #40, not #50 like Purina brand or so. Second, reading the"eggmakers label" was scary: it only had 15 % or less Protein, a lot of the protein coming out of animal "by-products" like feather meal, which leads to feather picking among your birds. It still gives me goose bumps and now, where I know more about chickens and their nutritional needs, I still feel guilty that I have ever wasted my money on that and even fed it to my chickens.
Also, I always write down, how many eggs I get per day/week. The "egg-maker" time was the time with the slowest egg production. The egg yolk was pale, even with free ranging for a certain period of the day. Bottom line: NEVER EVER AGAIN.
