Sams Club Feed

I stick to my local feed mill. He grows all his own grain. He makes it fresh and I know whats in it. The birds love it and for 380 a ton I cant bet the price.

I was paying between 550-600 a ton. Just glad I found this guy. Just means I can have more chickens LOL.

When I started to have chickens I bought a bag of Wal-Marts cheap "eggmaker".
First of all, it is not really cheap, because the bag only holds #40, not #50 like Purina brand or so. Second, reading the"eggmakers label" was scary: it only had 15 % or less Protein, a lot of the protein coming out of animal "by-products" like feather meal, which leads to feather picking among your birds. It still gives me goose bumps and now, where I know more about chickens and their nutritional needs, I still feel guilty that I have ever wasted my money on that and even fed it to my chickens.
Also, I always write down, how many eggs I get per day/week. The "egg-maker" time was the time with the slowest egg production. The egg yolk was pale, even with free ranging for a certain period of the day. Bottom line: NEVER EVER AGAIN.

I think that Melamine statement might something to really think about. I guess if it was in there, it would kill the hen before she could lay eggs that might harm? But, it was the more expensive brands of Dog food that did the most damage not so long ago, so Walmart cheap may not be an issue. I believe we should all worry about what is in the feed we feed our food. JMHO

I sure wish I could afford (and find locally) organic.

I went to Walmart tonight and checked out the feed they have. It is made by a company in St. Louis, MO -MANNA PRO. I have been feeding Manna Pro for many years to my horses. They make "calf manna" which is a supplement for livestock. I have always fed the Dumor feed from TSC, and the label says: produced FOR TSC, Brentwood, TN. It does not say made in Brentwood, TN as far as I can see. I like the Dumor because it is the only feed here that is NOT medicated. The Eggmaker 15, sold at Walmart, states it is a complete feed, 15% protein, and various supplements. The main ingredient is Wheat middlings, then ground corn, soybean meal and grain screenings. (Is that chafe?). It seems that Manna Pro is just as good as any other feed stuff out there, though it does not say if it has animal protein in it, which is not listed as such.
