Years and Years ago, and a few more, I was a young kid. We lived way out in the middle of no where, dairies all around and I hadnt quite filled up on the animals yet. We had dogs, that was it. I was no more than 5 or 6 years old when my grandparents came for their daily visit, and my grandpa had a surprise for all of us. He had brought us a baby cockatiel, just fledged. He was a normal colored teil, but this guy was special. The breeder was going to enthanize him because the upper part of his beak was severely curved. Being an avid animal lover, my grandpa decided to give the little guy a chance, and so he brought it to me and my siblings as a gift. My grandpa was given the opportunity to name him, and he did, Samson.

Sam was a BRAT. Plain and simple, he loved to chew on you. Luckily, with the crooked bill of his, he couldnt get a good grip on you, so he would just squeal and chew as you held him. We would let him fly around the house for exercise, for him and us both! He never liked going back in, luckily we were young and fit so we were able to chase him down. With his beak problem, Sam constantly got seeds stuck in his nostrils. It was up to us to save the day, so we would catch him and pick them out with a toothpick. A brat he was, but he quickly became part of the family. About five years after we got him, my grandpa passed away. Sam kept going though, Im pretty sure it was because he was such a brat!

He survived a move to another house, then another, and yet another! He also outlasted my other two grandfathers! When Spongebob Squarepants made an appearance, Sam let you know! He whistled his heart out to the theme song, even though he couldnt keep a single note correct.

This morning Sam was acting a little lethargic, and by this afternoon, he had passed away. Sam was a huge part of our family, and he will be missed. He was a pain in the butt, but we were able to give him 12-13 years of life he would have never had. I thank God that we were able to be blessed with that little bird. He'll always have a spot in our family, whether he is here with us or not.

Its always hard to lose a pet, but even harder when they manage to hang around that long. It sounds like he had the perfect home. He was loved and appreciated, and now that he's gone, he's missed.

So sorry for your loss.

Sorry for your loss of samson. I had a tiel also, her name was lou and she was about 6 years when she past. Still miss her yelling at me to tell me she needed food or wanted to be messed with. It was kinda wierd when she died, she was fine in the morning when I left for work. My daughter got home before me and found her in the food dish gone. She was fat as a butter ball. Still puzzles me what happen.

Thank you, all.

Im really gonna miss the little pest. He would climb down when you were feeding him and chew on your fingers, he thought he was so though, lol.

Geepy, Sam was the same way! He was totally fine yesterday, and today he was gone. It was so sudden, but I guess that's good.

This little guy went with me throughout my ENTIRE school life. From first grade all the way up til now, my third semester of college. Im gonna miss him.

Sorry for your tiel.

I lost my 7 year old tiel on Thanksgiving '93. His name was Mickey Motto and he was a total brat. He loved to start screaming at the good parts of the movie, but would never talk when we tried to show him off.

Awwwww, I love cockatiels!

Mine died a few years back. I literally grew up with "Pepper" and we were best buddies.

Sounds like he had a really good life! Your grandpa sounded like mine.
