I knew it was far fetched but you never know.

Oh and another note, I've seen quail eggs for sale over at the Northgate in Vista on E Vista Way and Bobier(?) I think it is. They're in a small corner right next to the regular eggs. I'll check up on the price next time I head over on that part of time - unless you want the eggs to incubate, in which case, I have no idea where to get quail.

Also -- is quail meat any good? The 'rents have tried it but they said that 'meat is meat'. Currently considering adding rabbits and turkeys for meat, but I'm considering buying smaller birds.

Texas A&M coturnix are all white meat while the other types are all dark meat. I like both.

If going for the dark meat variety, try getting the Jumbo XLD1 strain as they are considerably larger than a standard Pharoah.

Quail produce at a much better conversion rate that chickens - 3 pounds of feed per pound of eggs versus a lghorn that is4 pounds of feed per pound of eggs.

They are ready to eat in 8 weeks

Sick chicken...one of my Dominique's is not right!! Her comb and waddle have lost all their color (bright red to faded orange) over the past week and lately she's been fairly lethargic. Even the dog ignores her now because she won't react to her anymore! She's only about 10 months old and one of our sweetest birds, but there's no way we can afford to take her to the vet. Any ideas out there?!?! Thanks!

Is she laying? IF she is, has she stopped laying?
Like Phage said: check for external bugs AND worm her.

Going to check for bugs in a second...how do you worm a chicken? Is it something I can pick up at the feed store? Thanks for the direction!

You can check the worming section here on BYC, everyone has their favorite products. I personally use VALBAZEN as it kills all the worms....
How about the egg laying???

Hello everyone,

I have been dreaming about owning Sumtaler chickens ever since I saw a flock of them in Vienna, Austria. I have been eyeing an auction for 15+ chicks. The problem is, I don't need or want that many. Truthfully, I don't need any! However, need and want are two different things :D

So, are you in "want" of some Sumtaler chicks? Based on the winning bids I have seen for the auctions, I think I can get 15+ chicks for $150, shipping included. Would anyone want to go in for a share of these chicks? If there is enough interest, I wil bid on an auction and will distribute the chicks to the "share owners". Each share of one chick would be $10. By the way, they are from Greenfire farm. I will want only three chicks, so there would be 12 "shares" available. If interested, please PM me.
