San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

Re: Azure... That's not totally true. I've found that the people on the phone don't really know anything. I order from them and my drop off is by the Q Stadium, but they do have various locations around here including Santee. Only thing is they have to have an active person/ drop off point at that area. I have their route and drop off schedule booklet. Let me know if you want me to look something up for you.

I need a drop off in North County - I live in Vista - Fallbrook was all they could find. If you would double check please....PM if you find a contact number. Thanks!

I would try 1 bag at that price.

If I could sample any, that someone already has, to make sure my hens like it, I might get 2-3 bags. But I'd hate to have 150# of something they don't like.

I purchased the soy-free layer pellets and the scratch from Modesto. The girls will not eat the pellets - I have ground them up and put them in yogurt etc so as not to waste it. The scratch was very nice and well received. I did call Azure standard re: Cascade product and there is only one drop off point in North County (Fallbrook) - I called the contact on Sunday and have not heard back.

Empireranch: That is weird. Mine do not care for the Modesto Milling Scratch probably because of the whole corn and they may be too young. The 2 hens that I got from Allison did not care for the Cascade and then I went and bought them the Modesto Milling Layer Pellets and at first they did not seem interested but I have been sick and just left it and now they are eating it. Chickens are usually that way. If they get hungry enough they will eat it.

I really think there are more drop off points than Fallbrook. Call again and give them specifics of where you are located.

Nancy - re: Modesto scratch - mine eat everything else first and then will eat the corn. They do the same with the countryside feed - the corn is the last thing eaten and by that time they have flung it all over the place - the feed is like a mash and there is a lot of waste. I scoop up what they don't eat and have been throwing it in a vegetable bed - I have sweet peas growing in there now.....

Thanks for meeting me to get me the meal worms.

It's kind of dangerous now to enter the run....

My hens have that "you better have some mealies" look on their faces.

My little black D'Uccle from Lynne is down right vicious when a meal worm is thrown her way. The Mille Fleur acts like she doesn't know what it is.

I enjoyed our chat. One of these days I'd love to come see your coops and meet your flock.

Thank you!!!

Yes, come on over and we will continue our chat with a nice cup of coffee (from Chef Glenn) and a piece of German cake!!! I enjoyed our chat as well - but my apologies to your adorable kids, they were so bored with us.... If you ever need a kid-sitter, I volunteer.

, I know very well what you are talking about the mealworms. There is not one chicken in my flock that does not like them, so I bet that very soon your Mille Fleur will attack you as well for some.

I just called and the sales rep was not in and the person that answered the phone gave me those quotes. If there is interest, I could always talk to the sales rep and see if they will do a small mixed order. I am sure it will be a little more than the prices quoted. The quoted prices is for a 1 ton tote.

I have been throwing the scratch out while they are roaming the garden. They dig and scratch the dirt and I can see that they leave all of the whole corn kernels. I found mine to be a bit powdery and had alot of piece of the corn cob. I ended up buying some of Kruse's Organic Scratch and they seem to prefer it more since it is cracked and ground better.

I was hoping mine would eat the pellets or at least crumbles because mine have been wasting ALOT of the Cascade Mash and since it is so expensive it ticks me off. I do throw it in my compost bin but it is such a waste.

Did you enter the text in the box below filling out your info? I thought it was an ad at first, so skipped it and got an Oops! message. It may change, but, mine said to enter something about "plural Prius". Hope that helps!
