San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

Ohh My!! I forgot to mention the mealworms and the wheat!!

Anke- that giant cup of mealworms I bought, plus the bonus cup was gone in about 15 minutes. Between the 10.17 chickens (the new serama doesn't count as a whole, and according to Cara, they only count as 1/6th of a chicken), they gobbled them up as fast as Taylor could get them out of the bedding material.

Apologies!! Rockerchic! I didn't mean to forget you and your wonderful wheat grass, and bookmarks!! Jessica (dd) has her bookmark in place in her recent read, and the wheat grass has been rehydrated, and I'm going to try to grow it out. And I LOVED your sharing of the watering system! That is a fabulous idea, and I very well might put that in place here. The link is still in my pocket!

Nancy- My apricot tree (that never produced for me) is in full bloom! If the fruit is any good this year, I'll bring you a cutting.

Desert Darlene, the article looks great.

Thanks again to everyone who came to the meetup. The munchies were great and I had such a nice time meeting everyone. I still can't believe I brought 8 babies home (along with Iris, mealworms, oleander, and sprouted wheat......) I choose to use Carahamer chicken math, though, so really, because they're silkies, they only count as four more total chickens, putting me at "only" 16 (for now). I think my DH may not let me go to the Hawthorne Chicken days event next weekend, even if I am only looking at all the babies. Jeez, you'd think i was out of control or something.

Thank you Phage and Tigerrrrrrlily for the gorgeous silky babies. They have settled into their brooder and look very comfortable tonight. All my big girls had to come check things out when I was setting the brooder up. They went absolute gaga nuts over the mealworks. I had chickens pecking my fingers because I couldn't "serve" them up fast enough. Thanks Anke! I'll be back for more.

Check out Leia the Duck. Really, where else can you get this kind of entertainment?????

WOW Ok I had fun, I had a great time talking to Tammy, this am as we got things set up. Tammy your kids and your animals are just a pleasure to be around.
Anke meal worms are excellent, my seramas are mugging me again!!
The wheat grass is something i never thought of but is an eggselent idea, and i love the Book mark!!
Ok the soap smells wonderful and a love a sope with texture, needless to say i will be testing it out in the shower tonight! PS We have a family health food health store in ramona that promotes home made products, ramona family naturals, you should bring some sope up to the for the public!!
Perchie girl, i love your mare she is adorable, i have been wanting to say it but not that i can put a face to the mare owner i feel better about it.
SUNNYCALIFORNIA I am glad that the little girl is in a wonderful home with kids, your daughter is just to cool!!, I was actually shocked to see how amazing the kids were with animals, i have been around some spoiled rotten kids that had no respect for living beings, and all the kids i was around today, did not cause my ovaries to malfunction, normally i see kids and they shut down!! So serious what do your kids charge per hr to serama sit, Can i send some chicks over for sleepovers???

THANKS TO everyone for petting NO NO BAD DOG!!! "nova" she came home after the event and for some reason was exausted. I get my COCOPOP SERAMAS from florida on wednesday!! i am very excited. I think when we have out next meet up i will bring my modern game bantams, and maybe a cocopoop rooster for people to see.

LOL - That is one seriously tired dog!

I had a great time today - thank you all for braving the weather and coming out to talk fowl. Hopefully we can convince the weather to warm up a bit for our next meeting! I promise I'll bring more citrus to share, since I completely forgot today.

I opened the bad of scratch from today's order, and I was accosted. They LOVE it! I can see this will be a favorite treat, and will certainly order more in the future. Many thanks to Cari for doing all the legwork to snag us such a great deal!

Since no one else has broached the subject, I will: when's our next get-together?

Just a quick note here on how much I have enjoyed our meet-up today!!! It is so fantastic to put faces to screen names and to find out that everyone is so nice and chicken-crazy (actually animal crazy) as I am.

Wow, all your beautiful birds have blown me away. Silkies, the Showgirl Roo, Seramas and all the baby chicks....... plus the beautyful Princess Leia make me want more poultry and a larger place to live with lots of acreage.........
Thank You all for your generosity: the book mark, the wheat grass (boy, my girls were curious about it, but once they figured it out, it was gone in a heart beat - now I need to try that myself), the Iris.
Also a big Thank You to everyone about the feedback on the mealworms. I guess that that chick/chicken has still to hatch that does not like my mealworms.......

Hopefully we can do another meeting in the near future again, maybe when the weather gets more stabile and we do not have to fear any more rain.
