Thank you! It does not have to be organic. With my last flock, I did not use organic at all. I was just at Kruse's and I saw it and thought why not? I looked at the Naturewise website because I have never seen it before and now I know why. I used the 100 mile radius and I only found 4 or 5 stores and they are pretty far. There is one near my mom's so I may call and see if they have it instock.

I don't know where you live but they have it at the Bonita Corral Feed & Tack, 5080 Bonita RD Suite M, Bonita, CA 91902. It is $18 for 50#, not that cheap either.

I have been using organic, but I think I am going to switch back to regular for a while due to expenses.

When you buy the food, just make sure it doesn't have any weird chemicals like ethoxyquin, (a preservative). I found out my rabbit food had that before I switched. It's a bad preservative that has been shown to cause cancer in lab rats. I wouldn't want that in my chicken or eggs!

We have this brand called "Kelley's" here, it doesn't have any weird stuff in it, but it's not organic, and it's only $12.99 for a 50# bag of layer crumbles. Cheap!

Oh hey... So remember how we were all talking about our rodent problems and were trying to figure out a way to deal with them... Well I found a solution!

We have mice in the garage and one day bf left a 5 gal paint bucket 1/2 full with water inside by the door. We came back a few days later and found two dead mice in it! Apparently they go in seeking water to drink but can't get out and drown.

We dumped it and did it again a few weeks later and voila! another mouse!

I had a mouse eating my chicken scratch and I couldn't get it with the traps. I had set a 5 gal bucket 1/2 full of water that I had set the orchids in for a bit to soak up some water, and voila! next day a kangaroo mouse was in there! I got the little sucker!

So from experience, this method works REALLY good. And it's SO simple.

Hope this helps someone!

That's a good idea. I'm gonna try that but I would still have to be careful around the chickens because they could drown themselves too. I lost a chicken before that way when I kept him with the duck and he fell in the kiddie pool. I wish I could find a safe way to keep the mice out of the coops, my cat helps alot but can't get em all.

No, I am not from the SD area. The place I was referring to is in Glendale and they never even heard of it so that was a dead end. I did call another place and they had both the Purina and Naturewise. My friend goes that way so I am going to ask her to buy it for me. What she told me surprised me. She said that Purina just came out with a Organic feed and it is $24.50 for 50lbs. It sounds like the price is the going rate.

The price you quoted at Bonita is for the Naturewise Layer food? Like the Layena from Purina?

I think the Naturewise starter is $18, grower $17, layer $16 for 50lbs. The Layena I got from another store, I think was $12 for 25lbs.

Now I have to go back to the website and look because I thought it said Starter/Grower on the package and thought I could buy 1 type until I changed them over to the Layer food. I may not want to buy so much if I have to buy 2 different kinds. I may have to go to the feed store myself because that way I can check it out. I would not expect my friend to do it for me, she would just grab and GO.

The lady quoted a little cheaper here. The 50lb of Naturewise chick starter is $15.30 and $8.50 for the 25lbs. The 50lbs of Naturewise Layer is $12.80. The 50lbs of Layena is $14.10

Thanks for the help!!!
