There were 46 eggs that made it past day 5, a couple we hadn't noticed were cracked started seeping. Out of that, we got 25 hatch, one which died shortly after hatching, was still in the incubator. 3 pipped and didn't make it out. I opened 7 of the ones that didn't make it and 3 weren't viable, 2 probably didn't make it past day 9-10, 2 died in the shell. I didn't open the rest. But hey that's over 50% for my first try I think that's pretty good, especially considering half of them came from Kentucky!
Everyone - I have a wyandotte who has been sitting in a nest box all afternoon and is still there at 6.50pm. When I got close to her she ruffled her feathers and growled at me. Her comb is bright red and she is not ruffled when left alone. She is 9 months old and has been laying for a couple of months - could she be broody? I don't have a rooster. Any thoughts? I have never seen this behavior before.
Empireranch, If you go and touch her and or try to get her off the eggs and she gets "NASTY" and becomes pycho chick then I would say she wants to be a mommy.
Some people will go and get fertile eggs and let the their broody hatch them or you may want to look at ways to "break" her of it.
I honestly did not know Wyandottes get broody. I know that the silkies I use to have were ALWAYS broody.
