San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

Nancy,

Just have them send the pallet to your house. It will be more cost effective.

You know that as your chickens grow larger they will be eatting more, right?

Maybe sell a bag or 2 to your neighbors.

All those "healthy things" are just for prevention of worms, pumpkin seeds, cayenne pepper, DE, etc... they won't treat it if you actually have an infestation, but you can use them for prevention!

Oh and I'm in the same boat Nancy, I'm going through a 50 pound bag every 7 or 8 days now.

Well for me, I only feed the little guys the chick starter. I do not give other things until much later. The ladies on the other hand get cottage cheese, greens, tuna, cheese, yogurt and I supplement w/ wheat, oats, peas and I do sprout for them too. So the ladies do not go through quite as much feed as the little guys.

Al, where do you propose that I store a TON a feed?

The last time, I put it all in the spare bedroom in my house.

I saw 4 legged creatures in the garage and did not want to feed them too.

I might eventually do it but will have to buy MORE metal trash cans to store it. It will also be easier when they all eat the same kind of feed. Right now it would not work.

DH won't let my use the garage, but I have a wonderful little wooden shed that stores my extra feed, shavings, my plant stuff, and my Xmas decorations!! I couldn't live without it! No "large" critters can get in the the shed, its sealed fairly well. I probably have a mouse or two... but I also have a nasty neighbor cat that roams my yard, and takes care of the small stuff. My own cats are useless...they stalk the bird feeder and kill the finches.

But good ole 'Sylvester', the feral cat that sorta lives next door and sorta at my place ( I don't feed him though) , is a pretty good rodent catcher....I tolerate him, even though he makes my dogs bark in the middle of the night, wages war under my back deck with the local skunks and possums, and wakes me up at least 4 nights a week with his ruckus....

I guess he earns his keep.... I'm probably way to easy.
