San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

Hey Jared!
Good luck at the Fair!
I be you wont need any luck, anyway have a great time and just think,
this is going into your memory bank so someday you will be able to pull it out
and have a great big grin!
Renee, I am doling out parsimoniously the last of your Fantastic Feta! ]
Sure wish I hadn't let Jean taste it!! (Even though my wonderful wife lets me have
all my chickens!)

Have a great weekend!
Glenn

If I understand it correctly, yes they are sterile. They are 1/2 muscovy (which is not a true Mallard type Duck) and 1/2 domestic duck (mallard type). Pretty much all domestic ducks are Mallard derived (Pekin, runner, buff, hookbill, swedish, campbell, many more)

So, the nice thing about these 3 mules is you don't have to worry about ducks breeding out of control, plus they are very quiet! One "quacks" but its almost unrecognizable as a quack and very faint. lol:frow

Cool.... So a mallard type and a Muscovy are different branches of evlolution like Donkeys, Zebras, and Horses..... Do they lay eggs?

I know with mules they are sterile but the Molly's do come in heat. And the jacks have the urge to mate with them. Even though each is sterile. (BTW not all Mules are Sterile just most)

Yes - Muscovies are not true "ducks". They come from south america originally. Read this: http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/Ducks/Musc/Mule.html

Thank you chef glenn with visiting us at the fair.
jared ended up getting a ribbon for best of opposite sex for his american cavy.
which means that the top american was a boer and he had the top sow.

but since he was not top of the americans he did not get to go in the best of breed judging.
he did 5th on showmanship.

Proud of him

sami is a primary this year but only missed one part on her rabbit and one question the judged asked her.

she is so ready for next year.

yeah
thank you again for your support in the kids glenn means a lot

Tell Jared and Sami I congratulate both of them and thought they had the best of show in my opinion!
Enjoyed the afternoon.
