San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

I cannot speak for Renee but in my experience, they (roos) have a very short memory. While moving, I was unable to move my 10 million chickens at once and had to do it in stages. The first group went after the 2nd group and the pecking order started all over again.

Allison, I forgot to update you, the 2 BR's are doing great. I have been trying to play and hold them but they are only interested in food.

In my experience they totally forget each other and have to learn all over again, and sometimes that can lead to pretty bad battles...

X2...sometimes it gets worst! Either the lower ranking birds forgot their original "spankings" or perhaps the time away from the flock gives them new found courage since they were not receiving their usual dose of "spankings".

Not sure your situation or how many birds you have but I have found that its always best to introduce at least 3 or more birds into a new flock. Not sure why that number works its just does. Sometimes, they even create their own separate flock. Best of luck.

Just checking. My neighbor's girlfriend has 2 chickens. Yeah, I know. Chicken math has not gotten her yet.

Not chicken related, but interesting. I was heading down the hill and was just past Ramona/Mt. Woodson when I saw traffice stoppe ahead in the oncoming lane, two police cars parked to the side. I thought there was a pedestrian hit at first because of the size of the object in the road, as I passed I realized it was a Mountain Lion! Obviously tried crossing the highway and was hit. Must have scared the begeesus out of whoever hit it, and of course, a tragedy for the cat. Strange time for it to be traveling in a populated area. Thought the news would cover it, but nothing tonight.

Wow crazy!

I've seen one here but it was when we first moved in like 2 years ago.

Ahh but I have seen a couple bobcats recently!

I wonder if the natural food supply is getting smaller causing them to become more bold/ desperate.

. . . . How about a late Feb. meet-up in Ramona? The weather is generally pretty nice that time of year in Ramona. We could do it at either Collier park OR as you come into town there is a county park (with a pond, shaded picnic tables, bathrooms, playground) as you come into Ramona. http://www.sdcounty.ca.gov/parks/Camping/dos_picos.html It has a campground too, hiking trails. There is a $3 per car day use.

I think we ought to work on making this one a biggie! Have some prizes, raffle, no potluck...just a pic nic. We'll just have to make sure it doesn't fall on the same day as "Chick Days". How does that sound to everyone? I'll get the ball rolling if I see some definite interest.
