San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

Wow, I just hot glued my daughters patches on. LOL.

Hmmmmmm

Maybe we should have a "basics of sewing" session at the meet up too

I'm completely embarrassed that I spent a small fortune on patch sewing over the years... it's really not my forte. I can fix a rip or sew on a button, but I can't do uniform patches. (Lame, I know!)

I tried the patch glue once, and it ruined a scout shirt. Serious bummer.

I think we're going to blow away! Man is it ever windy.

I belong to a local art group whose purpose is support, structure and commraderie. This month the challenge is WIND.

I really have trouble with the concept of not being able to sew !!! I may be a snob about it but sewing is one of the most practical of skills. Besides being able to make anything from aprons, dresses chicken stuff to car seat covers and curtains it teaches spacial relations, design and hand eye cordination. I learned at home when I was ten but I do think that the public and any school system should include a class in middle school. If df designs, wants I can show her how to sew on a patch.

I understand because the entire SW Ca is a wind tunnel. But the challenge for the art group is to make a piece using our usual medium to say and illustrate that challenge word. Clay is hardly affected by wind other that it gets dry. But I can make a 4D picture of the effects of wind. Say a mural with a few extra car pats flying in the wind or a few upside down cows flying across the sky. I also was thinking of tumble weeds but I need a new garlic press to extrude the pieces through.

Any other suggestion will be respectfully considered.

I have lived in the desert a very long time my family as well. Dunes are also created by the wind. You can make an extruder with a piece of PVC pipe a cap and a piece of dowling or closet rod. Get the pipe to fit the rod not the other way around. The rod needs to fit inside very close.

Cap one end of the PVC and glue it shut. Then drill extrusion holes in the cap. fill with your clay and put the next closet rod piece inside and press down on something like a table or floor and your clay will extrude out the holes.

Hope this helps your project......

That is a wonderful offer, but I am a lost cause. I may be lacking some traditional homemaker skills, but I am handy in other ways....

Maybe you could offer up some stray roofing materials for Flower's art project?

Good idea Dana I will use it as roofing tiles ARE easy to find around here. And I challenge you to sew on a patch after I show you how !!!! I have lots of patches from parks and other stuff.

Perchie I like that idea.. If I can not find a decent garlic press I will use your design. I could use the inside of caulking tube if I can't find a PVC tube around. But I also need a plunger.

Caulking gun..... you could use the calking gun plunger and all.

yeah Deb, would need a new cap with drilled holes. If I weren't disabled at this point I would walk around checking the house construction sites. There are many new houses in the neighborhood. Those craftsmen are pretty sloppy and leave all types of stuff around.
