San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

To the 3 who requested eggs from my White Ameraucanas. They only started laying last week so I was only able to set four and they will not be ready by meet-up. But I will have a few eggs for each of you. So I hope that your incubators will be ready to take them.

Hey everyone, I met a really nice lady at the Vets office today, and she wants to start a layer flock using birds from local breeders. I know Cari does Ameracaunas, but does anybody else have some good laying varieties coming this spring?

Hey everyone, I have a friend who wants three egg layers, doesn't matter what kind but under a year old would be nice, he would like them to be relatively friendly and CHEAP. Please let me know what you have so I can purchase them for him... THANKS!!!

For those looking for hens, Dfdesigns has/had some really nice looking birds for sale, and I think very reasonably priced. WFF may also have some for sale.

I love your new avatar, Perchie Girl! That's my kind of useful horse...

I was doing some thinking this morning. If I'm having Renee hatch me some eggs, I really need to reduce the number of chickens I have here now. Hovering around the "20" mark seems to be a good fit for me, soooooo.... I'm going to offer up some laying hens. These girls are good layers and have already gone through their first molt.

1. Partridge Cochin - a big girl, she's prettier than this picture shows. Brown eggs. She's the one
in the middle, right above the Barred Rock.

2. Salmon Faverolle - my most "chatty" chicken; we call her Frenchie. Small light brown egg,
almost creamy looking.

3. & 4. Barred Rocks - I have four of them, and I'm willing to part with two. Great birds who lay
lots of big, brown eggs.

I don't know what the market is on nice, laying hens. I say some pretty awful Red Stars with cut beaks and sparse feathers going for $15 recently, so I'm going to say $20 each. These are all nice girls, and have been raised on organic feeds from day 1. Let me know if anyone is interested, and I'll have them penned separately for the meet-up.

I'm going to stick this on the other San Diego list, too, so please forgive the double posting.

I may have an NN. I have some chicks, just a few days old though. Got them from Nava in FL. I'm hoping that this time around I'll have a run on pullets. They grow on you, are excellent layers, hardy in cold and hot weather and pretty easy going. Plus, everyone has an opinion about them so also a good conversation starter! Make sure you invite her to the meet up!!
